Water Cooling Setup

Hey guys, is this a good setup?

I say no because ther is not direct gravity feed from your res to your pump. You want to make sure your pump is never starved for water. That pump has to force water through all those components then force the last radiator to overfill for water to return to the res.Not my choice in routing.But you know what,It probably will work as there is a lot of leeway in loop configuration.

So I guess placing the reservoir above the pump would be better.

That would be best. It doesn't have to be too much higher, just enough so that gravity will flow the water into the pump before turning it on

Something like this. One of those tube reservoirs would work great.

That looks fine. The reservoir can be tiny if you want - if you're brave, you can just use a T-line...

The last drawing is just fine. We could split hairs saying we want the water to hit the cpu first,or the radiator first then cpu, then the last radiator but as long as you have that res over that pump like that the continuing order of things is not going to matter much,but that is not saying valid arguments cannot be made for a different order. It is just that these arguments are going to be technical in nature (that is not really showing worth while drops in temps)

How big does a resivoir need to be? Well you can get away with not even having one and really big does not translate into really low temps. Myself I do not like total elimination of the resivoir.For me, no smaller than the volume one 5 1'4 bay resivoir will hold. For my rigs I do go as big as practical but you can get into problems with a long gpu interfering with the resivoir or the hoses/fittings to the resivoir. In deciding how big, think practical,that is "Am I making my res. so big that it is starting to cause other problems fitting the other components in".

If you did put your res. in the lowest bay you could make the res. long enough so the outlet on the bottom provided a straight shot into the pump intake (this would also set where your pump is mounted) but this is how you get into trouble with res/gpu interference.You do not need to mount the pump with screws to the case frame,it is fine just lettng the pump hang off the outlet hose from the resivoir. Letting the pump hang from a flexible hose also prevents vibrations from getting transimtted into the case frame.As you can probably conclude, setting things up the way I describe pretty much means you need a resivoir custom made to your specs. (at least the port locations). Perhaps this custom res.requirement makes this plan a "no go".

Actually, the reason why I had the res next to the pump is because of this video by Linus Tech Tips. He does the same thing, places the res next to the pump.

Alot of time is just personal preference and the way you had your
Res was fine ignore those other comments if they knew what
They were taking about they would relies when you started
To fill your res the water would have no where to go but to be
Pushed into the pump by gravity.
