Sure, there's more people who play Farmville than all of FPS gamers combined but should we start making all games like Farmville in the future? If you're going to make an FPS game, then cater to that genre. I don't really care if most people would prefer to control their soldier with a hula-hoop on the WII, you just don't do that. Yet, there they are, trying to cater to the casual gamer in a genre that isn't for them in the first place... Because of them trying so hard to be like CoD and cater to the console crowd, the game is no longer a true Battlefield game.

Lazy game developers looking to make a quick buck with half-reared games is exactly what the problem is. Imagine if John Carmack had said, "you know what, there's more console gamers than PC gamers, so lets make DOOM for the SNES"... It's even worse when a game like Battlefield that has already established itself as a new and innovative PC gaming series then turns around and sells out to the console crowd to make a quick buck while tarnishing their brand name at the same time.

Please understand that it's a business. Not all developers have hundreds of millions of dollars to throw around making a AAA game designed for the PC, which they will not be able to recoup their money on. Developers need to make profits if they want to remain in business, and no publisher is EVER going to sign a contract for a game that will lose money. PC-only AAA games were more profitable 10+ years ago because those kinds of games simply could not be run on a console, but consoles have put themselves in a position to be able to run games very similar to what a PC could run (albeit at a lower resolution/quality). As soon as consoles could start to run those games there were less people that wanted to continue gaming on a more expensive system like a PC. Consoles are easier to use and more affordable, and that is where much of the consumer base has moved to, and developers have very little choice other than to follow the consumers and develop for the hardware that consumers prefer to use.

OCN has a hard time seeing this because they are a very small subset of the population that is contrary to the market trends, OCN members largely prefer to remain on their PCs, so it is probably difficult for them to watch mainstream gaming (for most genres) move toward consoles. Luckily for me I have the best of both worlds by owning multiple PCs, multiple consoles, and multiple handhelds. There is no shortage of awesome games out there to play, as long as you're willing to broaden your horizons.

So is that the console manufacturer's fault, or EA's? Console manufacturer's charge that much to cover the cost of the weeks of testing to ensure the patch doesn't cause more issues (primarily security vulnerabilities). That, and fixed hardware are some of the main reasons why console games are much more stable and have fewer bugs.

Of course it is. Features missing from our PC games because consoles can't handle it or it wouldn't be practical for console users to navigate are the fault of consoles, not PCs. The continued growth of console users will only make this worse. Instead of games being made to work around PC flexibility, they're being dumbed down and simplified to work on consoles. Basic tasks such as having multiple camera views/flybys and being able to click on a flag to spawn on isn't in the game because there's no mouse cursor in consoles. You need a simple up/down like we have now. Why build features that only work on PC? You'd have to patch different bugs on that separate branch of code and push revisions that are completely separate from consoles. It's easier to keep most of the game as close as possible across all platforms. Getting shafted with tiny maps is just something we will have to learn to deal with. Companies will continue to build games around console limitations rather than spend the money to build a completely separate version of the game that's simplified just for the console users. It sure isn't PC manufacturers fault.

Why would anyone buy a Battlefield game to play on a console? The mentality of gaming has changed now. The majority of people seem to think it's ok to have a limited functionality game. Consoles should of died back with the N64/Sega Saturn for anything beyond side scrollers.

IMO, it's EA/DICE's fault. They created totally separate titles for BF2 (Modern Combat for Xbox) so why couldn't they find the courage to do so again? Create a console game for the consoles, and a true Battlefield game for the PC, with ALL the features everyone has begged for since the BF2 days and FB's destruction capabilities. If it costs ~40k+ to release a patch for the consoles, why should that hold back the release of the patch for PC? Why are they so insistent on releasing the patch at the same time for all platforms? It's not like they all play together. Why don't they just streamline updates for the PC version? Isn't that the main purpose and appeal of Battlelog? A seamless update system where we don't have to download and install the patches?

Shooting out multiple tiny ~10MB updates is a much more effective system than waiting months and releasing a huge update. Less strain on the servers, less downtime for the players, and a happier community with frequent updates, no matter how minor they are. BF3 should stream updates between rounds (during the load screen) much like how Guild Wars works. If a player with updated files joins a server that hasn't yet been updated, they'll be put in a queue until the server is patched up. It's really not complicated in a logical sense. Was a new bug just reported that would be pretty game-breaking if it gets out? Cool, let's fix up those few lines of code and get an update out this weekend. It'll download within seconds on the loading screen and no one will even have a clue that it was downloaded.

i paid 60 dollars for a game that constantly crashed for months after release until they finally patched it - by then, I was basically "over" it but still tried to enjoy it. I invested time, effort and money into the game and have been nothing but disappointed. I have been reading about a new patch that rebuilds the game for weeks now but really, i don't care about the information, I want a playable game that is fun. EA thus far has failed and I am probably not going to bother with BF again. I purchased MW3 last weekend and have already had more fun playing it than I ever did with BF3. I feel like an idiot for trusting the OCN hype against CoD and for buying into the hype for BF3.

All of you EA/DICE defenders are missing something: the fan base will continue to complain while the game sucks. release a good game, fix it with a patch, etc. and people will be satisfied. Lipservice does nothing.

take your hate speech somewhere where they give a crap kid. you only have problem because you make problems. 95% of the players do not have problem, just because you have a problem with the game does not mean it sucks. It is a totally different playing style of game, this is why you are not having fun with the game.

Are you KIDDING me? Seriously, i gave up playing this game for a month after its launch because it would crash after 10-20 minutes of gameplay until they finally patched the issue. 95% don't have a problem? Then why are they rebuilding the entire game with a huge system-altering patch? Have you seen the change list? Have you seen the pages and pages of people complaining about BF3 on OCN? All of my friends bought this game at launch because we were planning on playing together, guess how many still play it regularly? if you guessed "none", give me your address and i'll mail you a cigar.

after reading this entire thread I feel like my IQ has dropped 35 points.

come on people all u do is whine about updates and when u get updates u whine even more cause they arent released yet.

I for one enjoy the game and can't wait for more DLC. only thing I agree with is VOIP at least for squads. that would put boobies on BF3 lol

if you look closer, it is not stability issues they are addressing, they are addressing tweaks to weapons. I will call you a kid as that is how your acting. Your opinion is very one sided as soon as you brought another game into your opinion, especially when you can not compare the two games as they are different types of games, while being in the same genre.
if you have stability issue, maybe you should try looking into your computer and not blame the game or the company. I have 0 stability issue with the game and so do all of my friends.
