Controlling DDC-1T Pumps

Thread Starter
I have 2 DDC-1Ts and would like to control their speed in some way. The pumps have 4-pin fan headers on them, but don't seem to respond to speed changes from my motherboard. any thoughts?

You can buy a rheosmart fan controller from Sunbeamteach or Lian Li, which will let you manually dial-in or control them via a PWM signal. You can also buy any other good fan controller with enough wattage per channel to manually set them.

Fan controllers control input voltages (of fans/pumps), and the fan controller itself can control those voltages through PWM signal received through the motherboard.

OP: if the 1T is built like 3.x (except the 3.25), the 4-pin is only for RPM reading.
Using fan controller to undervolt will work, but it won't undervolt too far.
My 355 runs at about 4.7-4.8k RPM at default, the most I could get it down to before it stops starting up is about 3.5k RPM. I leave it at 3.7k just in case I accidentally tap the controller knob.
Temperature did appear to go down a bit though. The heatsink I attached to it doesn't feel as warm anymore.

Correct, the Rheosmart fan controllers let you choose between the manual rotary dial (VR) and automatic (VR+PWM signal from motherboard) to control fans that are not actually PWM fans/pump for each channel via a small button. The only things you have to watch-out for is the fan controller overheating due to a channel being set to low with to much wattage being drawn through it (keep it to one pump per channel) and making sure the pumps are getting the necessary voltage to actually run.

See Martin's review for information on wiring of these pumps, assuming that you have the same ones fron Maverick.

I'm not sure what the fourth wire is for. Someone with more patience than I have may figure it out. I did try PWM on that fourth wire as well, but never got a response. I'm guessing it may be a voltage sensing control wire similar to the DIYINHK toshiba based controller or something different like that.

Only way to control this pumps that I know work is your standard voltage regulation. A Rheosmart would probably work fine too, but I would watch those heatsink temps.thumb.gif

That wiring will not work shown on Martin's site. That wiring is for the white connector types I had offered in the past. The current ones are black connectors that are per the Intel standard of 4-wired fans or pumps.

Simply, the connector is now Intel compliant matching the 4-pin fan controller type connector found here on the Intel site:
http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/cs-012074.htm

See the last diagram on the page. thumb.gif
