Anyone else get tired of their HAF-X and downsized to mATX?

Thread Starter
So I've had my sig rig since Dec. of 2010 and really enjoyed the crap out of it. I was very excited to go with the HAF-X at first, however, I felt like the novelty wore off. I have been very impressed by how powerful these mATX rigs can be. The cases I've been digging so far are Fractal Design Arc Mini and SilverStone TJ08B-E. Leaving my 1090T/6870 for either Sandy or Ivy , a 7970 and a RoG mATX mobo.

Also, a co-worker of mine offered to buy my rig for $800.

Anyone else get bored of their HAF-X and decided to go mATX? I would love to see before and after pics if possible. And if so, did your components become beefier even though you've downsized?

Not me, My gaming rigs tend to go up in size and power and complexity.

I am planning however to build a HTPC using Silverstone FT03 case and Llano APU and FM1 socket mATX mobo. You can fit a full size GPU in the FT03 so i may put one of my 6950s in there if it fits after I upgrade to the 7990 when it comes out..

I sometimes get the urge to go matx, in the TJ08E, or a MM H2GO, but there is just not enough room for rads to cool the hardware. I would love to have a little computer though, easier to haul between college and home. Im sure I will find a reason to build a rig based around a asus gene mobo soon enough. Just something different you know? I dont know how you full tower guys do it though, WAY too big for me biggrin.gif

Mine stay the same size aha

Had a cheapish mid tower case before, but I like my HAF912A.

I wouldn't go mATX, midtower is lowest I will go. I want a new ATX board soon anyways

Love my HAF X. If i am going to replace it it would be with something better not smaller. Small cases do fine with CPUs like SB and GPUs that dont run that hot like HD 79XX and all this in air. Go water and you are very limited.

Thanks for responding fellas. I'm actually debating this very hard. frown.gif After making this thread, I started to look at my HAF-X from different angles. Even picked it up, I forgot how heavy it is, lol. The nostalgia of putting it together for the first time kicked in. Ugh. Maybe, i'll keep it in the family and give it to my kid while I go mATX. However, that would be a tough sell to get another high end pc in the house since I just got approval from the boss lady to put $400 down towards that Catleap 27" IPS . If that didn't push it, building another rig would.

So I've gotten more Nay's than Yay's...

Let's hear from some mATX'ers..

I love my HAF X, I need the room and cooling. next build is going big case too. Smaller cases are just too cramped for me.

I recently switched to mATX case (although I filled in a full sized ATX board) basically due to getting bored of seeing my desktop full of massive cases.

Experience tells that over the years you tend to go with less 'flashy' stuff and go minimalistic instead.

I just went tj-11 to tj-08e. I love it. Before I didn't have the option of taking the case and heading over to my girlfriends for a weekend... Now... I do! I can finally not be bored while I'm away from my home.
