Fresh Windows 7 x64 Ultimate = 21GB?

Thread Starter
So today I just picked up my Intel 510 120GB SSD, and I decided to do a fresh, clean Windows install. Well, I just finished and as I checked my SSD usage I was amazed to see that just Windows alone had managed to take up 21GB.

This is a brand new, fresh install. NO drivers, NO downloads of any kind, NOTHING but the original Windows 7 release (not even SP1). I know that I can delete the hibernation file and page indexing or whatever to save a few GB. But when I installed the exact same version of Windows onto my Laptop (Lenovo X300) about 2 weeks ago, the brand new install only took up about 10-12GB or so, not 21GB.

Why is Windows taking up so much space on my sig rig when on my laptop only half as much was taken?

64 bit takes more as opposed to the 32bit which takes about 5 less GBs.

There is nothing wrong with the 21GB install.

Hmm, I do see that MS says 20GB for the 64-bit, but my laptop also has 64-bit installed and it was wayyyyy less than 20GB :-/

Exact reason why my first SSD, is going to be 120gb, MINIMUM. Might even stretch for the 256gb model...might as well.

Sent from my SAMSUNG Galaxy S.

Looks like he got the 120GB version, not the 60GB.

Is your laptop Ultimate edition?

My 64-bit install and commonly used apps only take up 16.2GB on my Crucial M4 64GB.
A fresh install of Win 7 64bit with the necessary drivers took 35GB... Really hope Win 8 doesn't take that much space on a fresh install.
