<Solved>Unlocked Overclocking in MSI Afterburner not working on xfx 7970

I don't understand why this isn't working. When I go into the cfg file and change the 0 to 1 and then reopen AB the sliders to change the clock are at 0 but I check GPU-z and its showing that its clocks from same settings that i had before i set unlocked overclocking in the config file. When I try to most the sliders my desired clock and press apply nothing happens and the sliders reset to 0. Any ideas?

I was having that issue to. But I am running crossfire and disabling the ULPS "seemed" to be the issue, however don't think that would matter for 1 card.

i was under the impresion you had to enter that line in the CFG also

UnofficialOverclockingEULA = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it

and also UnofficialOverclockingMode = 1 which you did allready

also to disable ULPS :

Do it in this order:

 

  1. Uninstall Afterburner and Catalyst.
  2. Clean it with Atiman Uninstaller v.6.3.1 (turn off UAC to install this).
  3. Install 1/25/2012 http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/RC11Driver.aspx
  4. Install MSI Afterburner 2.2.0 Beta 14 Download
  5. Enable "unoffcial overclocking" HOW TO: Enable UNOFFICIAL overclocking mode in MSI AfterBurner
  6. Afterburner settings > enable all voltage controls.

 

Note: Exit Afterburner prior to editing .cfg file and ULPS.

 

Crossfire User; from step #4 > #7 > #5 > #6

 

 7. Disable ULPS:

 

  • Go to regedit (start > search programs and files > "regedit").
  • In drop down menu: find file > type "enableulps".
  • For ALL instances (keep pressing F3) change the "1" value to a "0".
  • Reboot PC.

Why am I getting access denied when trying to chance the 0 1 one in the notepad?!

(I know this is a old thread, but still.)

I am already administrator and have full control over files yet I still get access denied.

I had the same problem, even if I made sure via taskmanager that MSI AB is not running.
I solved it by booting windows into safemode and editing the file there. Ugly workaround, but it helped...

Edit:
I also tried to explicitly add the actual user to access permissions of the folder.
This also did it.
