Are you asking me or telling me? I have an impressive parts pile but I don't have 8 SSDs just kicking around. Flashing the controller won't do much if there's nothing connected to it. rolleyes.gif

That's it. I can't find another benefit. And I'm typing on my Extreme11-based system right now, impatiently waiting for my second pair of 4GB GTX 680s. The LSI controller turned out to be a bit of a bust in that it only reaches the advertised speeds under very limited circumstances. I guess the decent integrated sound is nice but I generally use the optical digital output. Oh, being able to use PCIe 3.0 without tweaks and patches is good. But I really don't think the extra cost is justified unless you're going for the big frame buffers and 4-way.
The Extreme11 fills a very narrow niche. If someone can make a better case for buying it, I'd like to hear it so I can have further justification for my purchase beyond just wanting to run those 4GB GTX 680s. smile.gif

Well I'm seeing anywhere from 5-10% performance gains with my 670 2gb 4-way SLI on the AE11 than my previous board, the Rampage 4 extreme. The PCI-E 3.0 hack/patch on the RIVE seemed not to work properly all the time and it would revert to 2.0 out of nowhere. Also on the AE11 I have been able to OC my 3930 to 5ghz with low voltage (1.40v), all with my H100. It has been stable with max temps 72c with Prime95. To be fair I did used a different 3930k chip on the RIVE, but most I could get was 4.7ghz with my H100.

As much as id like to get a E11, the E9 is the sensible choice.

What i wanna do (and have to do because the hardware is already waiting).

32GB ram using 8 dimms, and running at least 1600mhz any timings.

10 HD's NOT in raid but ALL single drives, 1 of them the SSD windows drive.

2 Optical drives.

it will also have a 4GB 680, and 1x 480 (later will be 2x 4GB 680sli AND a slave 630/640 to run 2 other monitors)

Is the Titanium HD better than the Core3D? Seems like a "cut down" core 3D, probably software passthrough chip?) like those other crap sound card with motherboard jobs.

i dunno, maybe the gods will see me worthy of an E11 if i be a good boy.

I tested the Extreme 11 in 16x 2.0 mode on all slots (8x 3.0 like the Sniper 3 I had or the last three GPU slots on native X79) versus 16x 3.0 on all slots. I saw no performance difference. It's only when you drop down to 8x 2.0 will you be hurt with many GPU's / monitors. So the Extreme 11 even with Quad-16x via two PLX won't really do anything for you versus native X79. Will that change with the 89xx series? Only time will tell.

As a caveat, this only applies to AMD since they are native PCI-E 3.0 on X79 and not silly NVIDIA which has "issues". So the E11 will still be the best board for NVIDIA users.

The PLX chips prohibit the slots from downgrading to pcie 2.0 specs, and that's it from what i calculate (? or is my calculator broken...)
You can select PCI-E 3.0, 2.0 and 1.0 in the BIOS. I verified using GPU-Z in the tests to confirm the speed change. 8x 3.0 (16x 2.0) is fast enough for current GPU's in any comnfig. Just avoid 8x 2.0 on multi-GPU/multi-monitor setups.

What BIOS were you running with the RIVE? Just asking because, in ASUS' defense, they've released a few BIOS updates since June '12 that have really smoothed out PCIe 3.0 performance for me with 4-way 680 4GB. The only time I have PCIe 3.0 "reset" with my cards is when I change drivers or format my OS. smile.gif

Thank you for this information.

Speaking of this - does anyone have 4-way NVIDIA on the Extreme11? I'd love to see info on performance. Due to crappy NVIDIA drivers, I'm GPU bound (reference link). So I'm not so sure the Extreme11 would make a difference (at this time) for NVIDIA users.

For those running crossfire or SLI, how necessary is it to use the molex power connector in the middle of the Extreme series motherboard?

It is only needed for overclocking, and even then if you are using more than 2 cards.

Last one i used was v1305. Im glad to hear Asus cleared that up.

With my 4 670s Im showing much more stable FPS performance with my AE11 and about 5-10% fps performance in BF3 @5760x1080. I am still getting some low GPU utilization (60-70%) in Vega's BF3 testing area in the beginning of Swordbreaker after exiting the vehilce. I still havent got up to the 90% GPU utilization that Vega got on his 4-way 680s. Now inside the vehicle my GPU utilization is up in the 90%(up to 170fps), but right when you step out it drops. My 3930 5ghz OC does help bring outside gpu utilization from 40-50%(CPU stock) to 60-70%(up to 108fps). Same BF3 settings Vega used in his video. Its just hard to believe I still have a CPU bottleneck at 5ghz, ram 2133mhz. I do think there is some driver issues in there also. I do get increased FPS performance when I OC my GPUs. If it were a complete CPU bottleneck i wouldnt see increased framerate with OCing the GPUs with utilization 60-70%. Correct?
On the other hand I do see the CPU bottleneck as I increase MSAA my GPU utilization will increase to from 60-70%(FXAA) to mid 80%(2xMSAA) outdoors but framerate will stay about the same which is about 100fps @ 5760x1080 in that particular section of BF3.
