hehe, I have all the wires plug in. I haven't tried the procedures from Asrock (still at work) yet but I checked the led debug again earlier and after SB code pases, you can barely make out 2 and something before she turns off. The manual says 0-2x is memory initializing. Lots of evidence showing something is wrong with the memory system frown.gif. I'm hopeful Asrocks instructions will work but I have my doubts. I've had a few mb quit on me past and I know when a board is beyond normal trouble shooting.

She posts outside! Followed tech support's suggestions and the second procedure worked. Taking it out and installing it.

Was this shorting then?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I'm using the brass stand-offs I used with my EVGA p67 ftw. I'm going to stick on some paper washers behind the mb (or the front confused.gif)

Going to install it back in case and return the Vengeance and buy a second of kit of Patriot if it posts with my current kit. I used my first Patriot kit to test the mb.

Thanks for all your help chaps! cheers.gif

edit: the vrm and chipset heatsinks were hot. Don't think that's normal. I'll check em when the board goes back in.

I'm glad to see it's posting. biggrin.gif I doubt it was shorting from the standoffs. Make sure there aren't any extras. Maybe the board was warping? No super hero tightness on the screws. tongue.gif It could have been a power plug not making complete contact. Sometimes older RAM needs to be seated a few times to make perfect contact. The VRM and chipset heatsinks normally get hot, as long as the temps don't get past 80, you're good. smile.gif

Could have been, are you using any nonstandard screws to mount it? Maybe there's one extra post that's shorting the board?
I checked for any extra posts and there weren't any. I'm using m3 case screws as the stands offs are not the regular 6-32 ones. I'm going to try to put here back in today.
Well this is interesting; all the screw holes had a white film on them and the screws had this white residue as well. Looks like the stuff left by short/arc. Now, inspected the screw holes and noticed on the front side, some hole have only half an circle of metal (to ground). Some have almost complete circles. Busted out my washer bin and voila! She posts inside. I looked at my EVGA P67 FTW and noticed that EVGA has several small metal inserts around the hole. Though its not solid, these grounds are all around the screw hole. I'll update my findings with Asrock to maybe help them look into the boards grounding design on the screw holes.

Ok now to put everything back together biggrin.gif

edit: used my mad-crappy paint skills to illustrate. I could have taken pics but the ASrock is already in and the EVGA is packed up:

450

450

This is what the Asrock has; most hole are like the first one shown, the rest are like the second one. Noticed more residue on the "half-moon" ones.

This is what the evga has, its a horrible illustration but you can get an idea:

450

Good troubleshooting.

I used to have issues with that and older boards, but not in a long time. One of my first thing to troubleshoot a non-posting board is still to throw it on a piece of wood and try to power-on. Old habit, but sometimes it's what you least suspect that is the problem.

I actually never had a mb short on me before since I came back in the scene in 2009 confused.gif. All the boards I've owned since then never had a shorting problem. I do remember back in the day where you had to use nylon stand offs thumb.gif
