btw, Auto OC? What? Where is that hidden? Or is my Xeon disabling that option as well from the BIOS?

Sucks you cant get an overclock, have you tried something small like 104 BLCK? I know a lot of overclocks can do that with locked or unlocked chips.

Yeah, I don't have that EZ option, nor do I have the XMP settings (naturally, since I have regular Kingston ECC sticks)

Ok, so my plan did backfire quite a bit redface.gif I guess I should've done more research, but then again, this is such a new platform that there is no info to be found mad.gif

edit. Just a word of advice to people, I spotted a few 8-core ES Xeons on the ebay starting from $700. If only I had known...

Here a picture from my E5 Xeon.. The BIOS Advance page have "Clock Generator Configuration", you can try to tune the "CPU skew rate", "SRC skew rate" and "Fix SRC skew rate".
The options may help bclk OC for E5 Cpus, but XEON CPUs doesn't have BCLK strap, it only can set bclk=100-108 strap!

Crazy german image hosting! I can't open it at work, but this is the same thing I suggested earlier with the 104 BCLK setting thumb.gif

I have a multi of 23x when loading all cores, so there's no point raising the BCLK by 4-5 to get an extra 100MHz biggrin.gif

I did however start messing with the memory timings. The Kingstons are rated 9-9-9-25 for 1333mhz, but they are running happy 7-7-7-20 CR1. A little performance gain with that tweak.

BTW, does anybody know will the ECC correction still work if I trade the Xeon for a desktop variant? I remember reading somewhere that you NEED the xeon in order for the ECC to function properly.

I haven't had time to fiddle any more but I have encoded several hours of video with the cpu at 100% and did't have any problem. I am kinda at a lose as to tweaking the ram, guess I will increase the voltage a bit more and see what happens. My ram is corsair 1.5 volt and I need to know how much I can push the voltage without toasting the ram. Be anxious to hear how you do with yours.

I still had no luck with 4.6, gave up, going to stick to 4.5 biggrin.gif

Yea, not much difference in the two. I can still run Prime95 for 3 or 4 hrs and finally get an error. One thing for sure I have disabled, enabled, set to manual and changed back to auto about every setting I have read or heard about and it seems the very basics are about the only settings that have any affect. I seem stable enough to do my work without any problem so I should be satisfied but I just get a kick messing with it. I may set mine to 4.5 see if it will run the old torture test any longer.

It's not right.
I've seen a Xeon E5-2690 stepping C1 on EVGA x79 with strap at 1.25x and bclk at 100MHz.
The CPU strap work in Xeon E5 but the bios of mobos must be managed correctly wink.gif
I don't know but there are a lot differences from SanbyBridge-E that we don't know

This message comes directly from Asrock. It could be that this Xeon has path/profiles in the IMC, like the 3930k or the 3960X. I have also seen an overclockable E5-CPU on the Cebit.. or EVGA has a solution to control the ClockGen Chip (DB1200), but I don't think so.

Screenshot?

It' strange... I don't find the screen that I've seen about overclocked E5 on EVGA but I know a guy that have in customs an SR-X and at home two 2687W. I'll write to him
