I'm in this process of setting up my new build on the Asrock Extreme6/GB. Just put it together yesterday and everything went fairly well, aside from a little grief associated with my H100 cooler. Right now I'm having an issue with my Crucial SSD boot drive. Initially, I couldn't install Windows on it (even though the BIOS saw the drive). Tried the drive with a different cable (in a different Sata3 port) and then it worked fine. Was okay all evening with several reboots during installation. First thing this morning, it wouldn't boot. Still saw it in BIOS, but no boot. And then, on third attempt, it works! Has anyone else experienced this kind of sporadic behavior with an SSD boot drive? Maybe I'm having bad luck with cables frown.gif

I had to set my primary boot drive to windows boot manager ( I beleive it is called ) in the bios and then had no more problems.

Under boot options Priorities set windoes boot manager as Option#1.

OK, it seems my shop will take back my Xeon and refund it, so I can get a i7-3930K instead. 6 cores @4GHz sound like a good plan for a 24/7 Ubuntu server box.

Do it. Glad it's working out for you.

You can do 4ghz at stock voltages with almost every chip out there smile.gif . With the cooler you have, I would shoot for 4.3-4.5ghz 24/7.

woot woot. I agree with the others, 4.3-4.5 should be a piece of cake.

These mobo's and the cpu's they require are more meant for workstations than gaming rigs right?
this is getting really annoying. I have the xtreme4-m and im assuming I am having VRM temp issues... I cant even get the PC stable at 4.6 without the motherboard throttling... I have all the protects turned off and even bought the antec spot cool fan to sit ontop of the VRMs... Seriously? overheating at 1.35v... and throttling my overclocks... this is very annoying... I was running at 2600k before this with the same watercooled setup on the asus z68 gene at 1.465v daily without an issue. Is this a specific Asrock issue? I am really contemplating just getting rid of this motherboard and moving onto the rampage... ahhhhh dont know what to do at this point. really dont feel like getting a motherboard specific VRM cooler either... besides the fact that its not even out yet for the US... basically right now I am stuck and keeping my 3930k at stock. how ridiculous is that...

Oh and something else to top it off. This is probably something that can be fixed. On my old computer and my media pc with an ssd I can load from windows logo into windows within 7 seconds. Ever since this comp I'm sitting at 12-14 seconds. Yes I have achi and the newest settings for everything from asrock. Well except the intel rapid storage seemed to be an old version. Updated that from intel.

Any fixes will be greatly appreciated.
