Anyway, I'm working on putting the parts together, but at the moment progress has been delayed by some cold, rainy weather which is making it difficult to paint my case as I had planned.
I've posted my parts list here: http://www.overclock.net/lists/display/view/id/4204533 -- I'd love it if you'd take a look and offer any suggestions you might have.
Thanks much and looking forward to getting to know you all!

looking good. I will make 2 recommendations.

1. You dont have a CPU cooler listed. hyper 212 in push/pull is always a dollar/performance favorite.

2. Your ram, ive become a pretty big fan of the Samsung Low voltage ram. if your not getting your ram for looks, then might want to look into them, as they overclock like beasts.
http://www.overclock.net/t/1210482/amazon-samsung-2x4gb-low-voltage-ddr3-1600-kit-for-47-ocing-to-2400
Link for more information. But I do see you getting the glass see through for the side, so maybe you want it to look pretty, in that case just keep the ram you have.

3. You seem like you might wanna go SLI in the future? in that case, I Would definitely recommend going with a full size ATX board. Since you are using a case that could can fit one. The MAIN reason for this is that you can maximize spacing between your GFX cards so that they can run as cool as possible, if you run mATX you will probably have some heat issues, or be caused to run the cards with a bit higher fan profile, which will equal a bit more noise.

Personally with this in mind I would probably go with the Fatality? but thats cause I like the red/black combo and the VRM cooler it has incorporated. but if you want to keep the costs a bit lower the Extreme4 or 6 ATX will do the job nicely.

Good luck!! and have lots of fun!!

"Doh!" on the card... doh.gif Oh well. The 2 different green fans were because I wanted a clear fan w/ green LED for the window, but the CM store didn't have one that was clear. (I was ordering the side panel at the time) -- too bad they're not identical, but I can always buy another fan if I think it looks terrible.

Lots of great suggestions, definitely gives me some things to ponder.

#1: You're right, I don't have a CPU cooler listed -- I'm still debating on that component. I was leaning towards the Zalman CNPS9900MAX-B but I will look at that Cooler Master you mentioned. (I've read some horror stories about people slicing the hell out of themselves on those Zalmans)

#2: Hmmm... I do like your suggestion about the RAM. From my research, it doesn't seem to matter if you put in 2 sets of dual channel vs 1 set of quad-channel, but can anyone confirm this? Also, I see the timing is a little slower; but I'm assuming you've seen some good results that would indicate the latency isn't a problem smile.gif

#3: Right to the point wink.gif I have been seriously debating returning the 4-M and ordering the 6/6GB. (I can't buy the 6 locally, and my husband would probably love the audio card addition on that model.) So, if you don't mind a total n00b question, can you plug the GFX cards in "a slot apart?" if so, that would definitely make the move to the 6 almost a sure-thing.

Ok, now on to work on the build log... don't want to take up too much space here wink.gif

hehe ummm ok lets see.

1. yah there are alot of options. you can look them up. I have just used the Hyper 212 over the years with a few builds and its usually around 20-30 bucks, nice and cheap and does a decent job. There are alot of others that are great as well, but if going too crazy with overclocking is not your thing, it probably not gonna matter.

2. Well ram... I work at samsung... and I will tell you specifically this ram does not come in sets from the factory. its actually all sent to us as singles, and the WH workers in the US just slap 2 in and package it for the duals. I purchased 2 sets of that specific ram and its worked out great so far. If I am not mistaken I have heard that most other manufacturers do this as well for majority of their ram, except for the REALLY high end ram.

Again, this is only if you are an avid overclocker and actually want to dig around. If you are not definitely just go with the ram that will best fit your needs stock and look the prettiest. As for the timing, it is worse than your ram of choice, they can be tightened up as the voltage is only 1.35. but if you have already purchased the ram no reason to go out of your way. The ram you have is perfectly fine.

3. I know in previous motherboards I had, I could split between the 1 and 3 slot for my graphics cards to give as much space as possible. I am not 100% sure you can do this with the extreme6. I am sure someone else can probably chime in, but im 90% sure you shouldnt have a problem doing this. Just when you decide to do this, make sure to get an SLI cable thats long enough to reach.

actually even with splitting it, you might also be space restricted in the specific case you have. it might be too close to the bottom. I am not 100% sure.

Thanks, BHK -- I suspected as much on the "kits" -- having worked in marketing & package design for a manufacturer, I know how these things go. But it never hurts to double-check, so +REP to you for a fair answer smile.gif

I haven't plunked down the cash for the RAM yet, so I am actually quite interested trying the Samsung Extreme Low Voltage out. The price certainly can't be beat!

Why are you running 102? Just leave BCLK alone.

Well.. as much as I was playing around with it the only satble run I get is from 44x100 and no matter how low I make the multiplier be, any changes to BCLK going over 102 is giving me a system crush or no start up at all.. but with 4.4Ghz I really feel that I'm underusing my hardware posibilities

I had some problems getting mine stable at 4.625, there is a lot of good advice in this thread and the OCing a 3820 thread. It is difficult to help when we don't know what steps you are taking to change the BCLK other than just changing it. I know using the auto OC settings is not a good idea but I do have mine set to 4.6 in the EZ OC and used that as a starting point. I would disable TurboBoost first and exit the bios then go back and disable SpeedStep and exit the bios, then set the EZ OC to 4.6 and exit the bios ( the BCLK will be 125x37 Multi ). If it will post exit the bios again and set the ram nearest to its default setting, mine is 1600 so I set it to 1666. If it will boot you can start tweaking the vcore, ram & etc.

Wow the waterblock shipped today from Germany. Expected here tomorrow. That's some quick shipping from aquatuning. I guess tomorrow will be wasted ripping my computer apart/putting it together then overclocking.

yah im kinda excited as well. id be happy if it stabilizes at 4.8. 5.0 woudl be great just for benching. next will be figuring out what gfx cards I want. nothing on the market right now is peaking my interest... and I need more vram... my 480's are crashing whenever I hit a really bad vram wall. 2560x1440 is amazing to look at, but very taxing on the gfx card front.
