I have been very impressed with the OC ability of my Extreme6/GB board, I am total OC newb running a 3820 @ 4.6Ghz and passed a Prime95 24 hour stress test. My CPU did get get to 70 degrees, but other than than that my board has been very stable, and have had zero crashes.

My old build was a core2Duo on a ASrock mAtx Woldfale 1333 R2 board, and that served me well too, lasted years...thats why I went with ASrock again. ASRock boards dont have the bells and whistles of ASUS boards, but I doubt ASUS boards at similar price points as ASRock X79 can hold a candle to ASRocks quality. truly a great value, and have faith my board will last for years. My old board never failed, just upgraded to X79, and gave it to my dad

I just ordered a water block for the VRM bank on my Extreme6. Thought I'd mention it as someone else in this thread was looking for a VRM block for his board. I know Koolance and maybe other companies make compatible blocks, but the German company, Watercool, has released Asrock X79-specific blocks for both the VRM and South Bridge. I opted only for the VRM block as I figured adding the SB block might be of little if any benefit (as the Asrock boards come with a fan over the SB) and do more harm than good to my water loop.

Anyway, here is a link to the VRM block for Extreme3/4/6/6GB

And here is a link for the VRM/SB kit

Comes in Nickel, Copper and Derlin. Not sure if they have specfic blocks for the Extreme7/9 or Fatality boards.

I don't think the Extreme 7/9 and Fatality have VRM heat issues. ASRock beefed up the VRMs on these models .

Yeah. Not saying they do.

In truth, I haven't noticed any issues with my Extreme6. I was picking up a water block for my video card and saw the VRM block, so decided to get it anyway due to reports of others having issues with the Extreme4. While the Extreme6 shares the less "beefy" cooling implementation with the Extreme3/4, it does have higher power phase delivery, which might mean it uses different VRMs than the Extreme4. I wonder if this makes a difference? I suppose time will tell...

Extreme3 has 5+1 phase power
Extreme4 has 6+2 phase power
Extreme6/7/Fatality Champion has 12+2 phase power
Extreme9/Fatality Professional has 16+2 phase power

Hey,

Ive been playing around with my ram OC...Samsung MV-3V4G3D/US (4x4GB). I have it set to 9-9-9-27 1.440v in the bios, but ASRock AXTU windows 7 utility is showing the DRAM voltage set to 1.78v. Is this because I lowered the timing from 10-10-10-28 and its automatically compensating? or is AXTU just wrong?

Curious. Thanks

I have never used AXTU, but I would trust what your bios says.

What does CPUID say?

I switched it back to 10-10-10-28 @ 1.50v, But I cant find where CPUID shows memory voltage?

1.785 is very high so I didnt want to risk it, stock voltage on my ram is 1.35v w/ timings of 11-11-11-28. I'm happy with current setting anyways. AXTU does show the correct voltage with 10-10-10-28 @ 1.50v...this is what weirded me out. I should try bringing it down to 1.35v. I was trying to get lowest latency @ a fairly low voltage...any suggestions? btw speed set to 1666 as part of CPU OC preset

Yeah, I've had good experience with Asrock support so far. I had to RMA my board when I got it because I did something stupid - redface.gif I'll leave it at that - that ended leaving me with bent socket pins. I tried to fix this myself, but couldn't get one of the memory channels to work. Long story short, Asrock replaced the board for $50 service fee and paid shipping 1 way. More than fair since the damage was almost certainly my fault.

After that, I was having trouble with my USB devices causing "B4" delays on startup. Asrock support was quick to send me a beta bios for the board that cleared the issue up.
