I don't have a CPU-Z link at the moment, so I didnt sign up, but I just rebuilt my rig after discovering a leaky res and wanting to change out the controller. I don't have any photos, but here is a quick vid I made for a few people who were curious what I was up too last week. Its built on the Extreme9 and is mission critical stable at 4.5Ghz (its normally used for probabilistic modeling and simulation, not just music and movies). The new Res's are custom DD's and all the acrylic panels are just .25" thick hardware store stuff with plastic paint on the back. I'll be raising the false floor up, it was a last minute idea, but needs to be about 1.5" higher to hide the wires.

I have a question for all you ASRock X79 Owners.

Is the molex connector above the PCIe slot necessary? I've heard from different sources that it helps if you are OCing your GPU. Alternatively I've heard that it is only necessary when running multiple GPUs. Which is true? Doesn't the PCIe spec mandate that 75W be availably through the PCIe slot? Does the molex connector somehow raise this a bit? If so, can a GPU actually make use of more than 75W through the PCIe connection if it isn't designed for it (seeing how most of the power for higher end GPUs come through the axillary PCIe power connectors on the card itself?

It's not really a big deal, but it's really in an awkward location if you are trying to have a semi-neat cable routing. Opinions? I can't find a straightforward answer as to what this extra molex connector actually does.

If so, can a GPU actually make use of more than 75W through the PCIe connection if it isn't designed for it (seeing how most of the power for higher end GPUs come through the axillary PCIe power connectors on the card itself?
It's not really a big deal, but it's really in an awkward location if you are trying to have a semi-neat cable routing. Opinions? I can't find a straightforward answer as to what this extra molex connector actually does.

I have overclocked 2 GPUs, without using the molex. When running 3 or more, you need to use it, especially for overclocking.
