Ya, look's like the PLX chip shortage has pushed the Extreme11 back to August. mad.gif

Damn! I guess I can wait a little longer. I need to build a new system and was going to get the Asus ROG IV but that thing has a lot of issues I have been reading. This AsRock seems to be pretty awesome but who knows at this point if it will suffer the same kind of issues due to the massive amount of functions they are craming in it. If it looks like a better board then I will grab one for sure and by then hopefull those 7970 X2 cards will be out.

Not completely stable.....blend fails because im using elpida hypers and x79 dont like them....takes llike 1.75v to get 6 sticks stable at 1866 no matter the timings. I can run small ffts all nite tho. Got some Corsair dominator gts to replace these hypers.

It seems others are getting better temps on good air coolers so I guess I was expecting anything that was a water cooler to be bettter. It's amazing what I learn at my own expense.

So at the end of the day is the water cooler worth the extra time, effort and $$ in comparison to the air cooler? Those temps aren't critical by any means. Gotta keep in mind that some people are blowing air conditioners at their radiators to get those low temps but they wouldn't tell you that, i'm sure. food for thought.

Well, the top of the close loop market is about equal with the top of the air cooling market when you compare them apples to apples(same setup with same ambient temps)

If your overclocking the X79, 2011 socket, you need this type of cooling at a minimum. There is a lot of heat generated by these chips, and I wish I had jumped right into a custom loop, instead of settling with a H100. The H100 performs well up to ~4.5ghz (on the 3930k), but after that it gets too warm for 24/7 overclocks.

I was orignally going to use a Noctua NH-D14 air cooler and they were out of stock about any where I checked when i did this build, I waited a week or so and gave up and ordered the Intel closed loop cooler. I really think water cooling is the way to go if overclocking the x79 boards. I would definately build a custom loop if I had it to do over, which I am planning to do soon.

Can anyone confirm if the new PCI-E 3.0 patch Intel recently released works well with the X79 Champion for Nvidia's 670's/680's in SLI/Tri-SLI? Any stability issues going from PCIE-2.0 to 3.0? I really want the X79 Champion for the 1-4-7 Tri-Sli spacing capabilities but I don't want 2 of the 3 cards running at PCI-E 2.0 8x bandwidth. Thanks!

Well, H100 is not really high performance water kit. There are better ones out there and any custom 240 loop will destroy it.
My relatively cheap setup gets temperature delta of 30 degrees over ambient with 3930K at 4.4 GHz.

What does Error 53 mean? Check your owners manual for us.
