I'm pretty sure my math isn't wrong and 1.2v(stock) + .1v =/= 1.4v... help?!

Keep in mind that depending what your LLC(load line calibration) is set to, this will change your voltages under load. It is best to set this first. Most people that are going beyond 4.4ghz should set this to level 1, if not, try level 2. You want to set it so that your voltage in the bios (when on a manual-fixed setting) matches the voltage in windows with CPU-Z.

With X79 the offset voltage is set due to what your stock voltage is, as if it were fixed. You can adjust this by doing the following.

Set voltage to manual-fixed

Set fixed voltage to where you want to start (in your case it would be 1.2v @ a mutli of 38)

Save changes, reboot

Set voltage to manual-offset

Set desired offset voltage and multiplier

Thanks, repped. However, I have th e LLC set to auto, and the UEFI or whatever that decides "auto" has it at lvl 5... is that a BIG issue?
EDIT: also, if the voltage is fixed, will EIST step the voltage down, in addition to the clock?
EDIT2: Ok, just did what you said to reset the voltages however... I set the multiplier to 44, offset to +.1v, and LLC to lvl1.. and my voltage kicked ALL THE WAY up to 1.48v. Am I ACTUALLY doing something wrong this time? Should I be changing the "additional turbo voltage" instead of the "offset" voltage?
Edir3: Ok, I again, reset the voltages like you said. New settings: 44x multiplier, +.4v, lvl 2 LLC, I've resorted to using AXTU and manually tweaking the voltages inside of windows, using CPUZ/HWMonitor to see the voltages... Is this sloppy? Can someone explain LLC to me?

EDIT: also, if the voltage is fixed, will EIST step the voltage down, in addition to the clock? No, the voltage will be fixed. The CPU speed will still drop to 1200mhz, but the voltage will remain the same. The power consumption is very low at lower clocks, even at high voltage.

Am I ACTUALLY doing something wrong this time? Should I be changing the "additional turbo voltage" instead of the "offset" voltage? No, you're learning! Trial and error can't hurt as long as your temps stay below ~80 c. No, do not use additional turbo voltage.

Can someone explain LLC to me?Ok, for overclocking don't use the "auto" LLC because it will result in instability at higher clocks.

In a short version, LLC is your motherboard boosting the voltage to your CPU when the processor is at load. The reason for this is because under normal conditions, when a CPU ramps up, you get what is called "vdrop". Vdrop is when the voltage to your chip drops because of the needed power to run at higher clocks. LLC is too offset Vdrop.

I would stick to using the bios because it will always be more accurate and reliable than software will be. +.1v is a VERY high offset, generally I would start with the lowest setting, increase your multi until you reach instability, then up the offset.

Thank you sooooo much for all the help. One last question. I currently have the LLC set to lvl 4, as dictated by the SBE OC thread. In AXTU, the voltage (it says) is at stock. I don't know if this is repeating my question again, but the voltage is up to 1.29~ again....?!

Every time you reset the voltage you have to set it to fixed, reboot, then set it back to auto(or any other offset). That way it will reset. Also, check the Vcore at load with CPU-Z, not ATXU.

Uhhh rc... I screwed up again. I managed to get 4.3GHZ at 1.3 volts, and when I pushed the multiplier up one more, half an hour or so of Prime tossed me a BSOD. Now, I can't boot or post, and nothing shows up on my screen when I hit power. Also, the Dr.Debug LED is stuck at code 69 (North Bridge DXE has started) or something like that. Help.....madsmiley.png
EDIT: I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I DID BUT IT'S WORKING NOW. NVM

Reset your bios by powering your computer on, and hitting the square button below your PS/2 ports.

Then plug in your last good overclock, make sure to keep an eye on your temps when stress testing as well!

Wait... Hit the button while the PC is on? I read somewhere else that I had to pull the plug, and cut the psu power... By the way, something else is wrong now... Instead of 69, it gives me 67, "CPU DXE initialization-blah-blah".

hmmm, I'm not sure about that error code.

You can reset it while the PC is on, as long as it is not booting. All other times I would recommend that the PC be off.

Nvm, the code is b9, which I mistook for 69. As of now, the 67 problem has gone away. I have a bad stick of RAM... I have no idea how/why/ but I ran memtest for 8+ hours the other day and it turned up clean... sighh....
Edit: Everything is stable now, albeit with 12 GB of ram in triple channel...
gonna keep the cpu at 4.2Ghz @ 1.32V (LLC set to lvl 3, offset set to .005v, but whatever.)
