Hey guys. I just started looking into the Extreme9 since my newly-purchased RIVE seems to have a few minor issues I was just wondering if the VRMs get hot enough to be a problem around 5Ghz overclocks like the RIVE's do? I've had the board throttling my CPU at anything over 4.6Ghz and I've been told that my only options with the RIVE are to either watercool the VRMs north of the CPU, or disable VRM Overcurrent Protection and take a chance at cooking the board. Does the Extreme-series have a similar problem? Is this just how all the 2011 boards are?

Oho. Thats sweet news. I was getting pretty close on giving up on it being released anytime soon and was poking online shops if they are willing to ship to Estonia. With the stats emerging on the official website (as of last week the Extreme 11 page was "page not found") I assume its perhaps up to few weeks until this babe is available in online retail channels.

As far as price goes I would speculate on ~300 euros, considering that Extreme 9 is ~250 euros. This one has an extra slot and the add on card is integrated into the MB making extra slot free. And altogehter 14 SATA (SAS) slots which is two more than extreme 9. Quite massive amount.

...

err... ohwell .. I just noticed - its not ATX and not even E-ATX but CEB. Unfortunate. I have very small case wink.gif

Hey,

I just got my Extreme 4-m with 3930k and so far it's been a super easy ride, bios upgrades are hellaeasy as is OCing on this badboy altho I ran into a problem, most likely not specifically to do with motherboard but it was throttling my CPU OC due to the VRM overheating at anything above 4.2 and because of my case I was not able to provide the VRMs with additional cooling - so I stuck with 4.2 ghz atm. If you can provide some additional cooling to the VRMs expect a very nice OC out of this board. I managed my 4.2 with just 1.2V which I believe is really nice :).

Altho do take notice that it's an m-ATX board with just 3 PCI-E slots and only 2 of them are PCI-E gen3 x16, middle one is x8. If you have a PCI soundcard it will have to go in the top slot with the videocard on the very bottom one because otherwise the soundcard would be directly below the videocard and thus blocking it's airflow.

Hope that helps with the decision :).

As far as I know "CEB" is actually a bit smaller than E-ATX but a bit bigger than ATX - http://www.brighthub.com/computing/hardware/articles/71808.aspx

I have not had any VRM issues on my Extreme 9, I have only run 24/7 overclocks at 4.7ghz, but never had any throttling issues. It is possible that the bump to 5ghz would cause this, but you could easily remedy it with good airflow near or on the VRM heatsinks. One of the reasons I stepped up to the Extreme 9, was because of the beefed up VRM cooling.

I have hit 5ghz, but didn't have the CPU cooling to test stability, so I can't say if it would have throttled.

I'll bet that is close. And I also think that ASUS will probably drop the RIVE pricing when this is released. Feature wise...this board runs rings around the RIVE.

I had no problems with my 3930k @ 4.8 with RIVE and H100. I did turn the fans of the h100 down to blow directly on the RIVE's VRM. I'm going to buy 2 more fans for push/pull for even more air flow to the VRM. I did however had some weird power issues on my RIVE in which a RMA is in progress.

But the Extreme 11 does look mighty tasty!
