Please don't hate on me... but... I have a pokemon question

Hi all,

Seriously, I feel this is the totally wrong forum to ask about pokemon biggrin.gif

Right, going back many, many years, I played and completed pokemon red on my gameboy colour. I want to play along the rest of the games, just to catch up on nostalgic reasons. Can I play the newest game and not get lost, or should I play them in order?

Obviously, I think there were like 153 pokemon when I fell out with it, and it looks like there are THOUSANDS! I will be boring consoles (Nintendo DS or what ever) to play

N.B What games should I get in which order to complete

EDIT: In fact, if red & blue (enhanced version being yellow) was first generation, it looks like pokemon gold and silver (enhanced version being crystal) added 100 species.

If you have a Nintendo DS, Then have a go at Heart Gold or Soul Silver.
Personally I think they're the best games.

They're essentially remakes of Gold and Silver, only 4th gen, and on the DS

Here's a quick summary of the Generations: thumb.gif

1st: Red, Blue, Yellow - 151 Pokemon
2nd: Gold, Silver, Crystal - 251 Pokemon
3rd: Ruby Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red, Leaf Green - 386 Pokemon
4th: Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heart Gold, Soul Silver - 493 Pokemon
5th: Black, White - 649 Pokemon

Black 2 and White 2 have recently been announced but not much is known about them.

I'd recommend having a go at a 4th gen game, seeing as they've finished the generation, and you've always got the wi-fi functionality.
People say that they lost it around gen 3, but I think that's when they started getting good! biggrin.gif

I'd also have a look at serebii.net, a great website for all of you pokemon needs tongue.gif

You won't... not really. Each game doesn't piggyback off the last, it's a whole new story, Sometimes they drop a line from Blue / Red / Yellow about the original Elite Four but otherwise they're all pretty separate. (Can't speak for Black / White though, never played them... ditched my DSi a while back) :\

So much this. Serebii.net is the absolute best site for anything pokemon related. It is both a good reference guide and a great teaching tool. Their forum section also has quite a lot of pro players (as of about 3 years ago) that are also helpful and extremely knowledgeable thumb.gif

+rep to all. I'm 20 now, not sure how old I must have been when I started with red (my little brother had blue version) I had the Original gameboy, then gameboy colour and that was it redface.gif

Ok so I see the stories are new each time, but I will play through them properly to prolong the 'game time', it will do me well in travelling thumb.gif

Man, I feel old. I'm 28. I only ever played two pokemon games, and that was only because the kid who lived there before us left all his stuff. That was 8 years ago. One was Gold, I believe. And the other was an n64 game. something about an arena. I was never really a pokemon fan. At that time in my life, i was more into dnd, fantasy, novels, and languages than videogames. I'm still into those things, but I'm a gamer once again.
