Please don't hate on me... but... I have a pokemon question - Page 3

This thread got me curious, so I decided to check it out, and boy was I surprised to see how the number of pokemon have grown. tongue.gif Back when I got into hand helds with GBC and Pokemon Yellow there were only 150 or something. Oh, the good times. biggrin.gif

But, good luck with your re-kindled Pokemon passion. Have fun! biggrin.gifthumb.gif

Just get an DS lite, plays both gameboy and ds games.

story wise:

fire red/ leaf green -> crystal -> emerald -> diamond / pearl -> platinum > black / white

I wouldn't recommend you play 4th + 5th gen before the previous ones because of the physical / special move swap, and its always better to get down the old moves first since it'll be helpful in the long run.

This sounds like a good idea.

I'd play Pokemon if I wouldn't be bullied lachen.gif

Yeah I think I will grab a DS Lite if I find a decent used one, but I thought crystal was after red/blue? I thought Crystal was the special edition of gold/silver, just like yellow was the special edition of red/blue

Maybe you shouldn't hang around those who bully you for what you like, lol. I used to play pokemon competitively in middle school/ early high school and even discussed it with the "nerdy kids" in the "uncool" table and nobody ever bullied me.

Correct, most special editions have a similar storyline as regular editions so you get to kill two birds with one stone. And Crystal is set in the 2nd gen so you're right that it sets after red/blue, but fire red/ leaf green is a 1st gen remake so thats why I put it before crystal.

It is,
The third game of the generation usually has a different and better story line.

You can get a used DS on Amazon for about £40-£50.

Just saw the word Pokemon and I opened this thread like crazy.

I am 20 years old and I still like Pokemon... A lot. I would suggest starting with the first ones, even if you just do a quick run through them. Go about them in order! That will help with your nostalgia, as it might come close to what we experienced at such small ages; you played a game and waited for the next one to come, etc it's just that this time around you don't need to wait tongue.gif.

Every game has a great story, in my opinion. Some people hate the generations after the 3rd one, calling out that the original Pokemon were better etc, etc I call bull feces on that one, they probably didn't even play the newer gens or are the typical person who doesn't like change.

So after all I said: PLAY ALL OF THEM!

Side note: 4th gen and later get a little more complicated since Nintendo focused a little more on to trainers who can get into the technical training (IV's EV's, Nature perks, etc) which I also consider fun but others may find a little complicated. Nevertheless you can still play the games ignoring those things. Note that IV's and EV's exist since the first generation (Blue, Red) but nobody really cared at that time and did not know how they worked.

I remember grinding non stop for EVs just to get my pokemon ready for the battle frontier in emerald, and when I arrived I just ended up breeding more pokemon with higher IVs.

From my experience and what I can remember people liked r/s/e because its more well balanced and took more skill where d/p is just all out offense thanks to stealth rock.

True, but you couldn't play r/s/e online though :<<br />
One thing I do with my friends is to have some kind of rules. That usually balances out Ubers and stuff like Stealth Rock like you said. Non-stop fun!
