Get pokemon Black or White then get black 2 or white 2. Skip all that mess you'll get lost in it.

I disagree with you there, ViR-tUaL. Though it depends on how much of a fan you are, each generation has its own good traits that make playing them enjoyable.
I have and still play all of the Gameboy and NDS Pokémon games of all generations, but for you I'd recommend the following playing order:
- Red, Blue or Yellow (pick one)
- Crystal (Animated! Yay!)
- Emerald
- Platinum
- Black or White
- White 2 or Black 2 (respectively)

They are like $5-10 used...

You are actually better off buying Pokemon games used because you can get one with a new battery so you can actually save the game.

Badum Tss... Howdy, Mr. Disappeared! biggrin.gif

And it doesn't feel bad to crack a used game open to install a battery holder and a small capacitor, so you can swap batteries without losing your savegames...

Done that on a few SNES carts :thumb

By the way, any opinions on the new games? Looks like they're very different to the 1st BWs (or so I've been told), but I'm a bit skeptical.

totally just read this thread and figure id start playing this game again used to love it as a kid only played up untill gold/silver. im actually playing blue online, through the browser. so didnt have to buy a consol:thumb:
Considering buying myself a 3ds xl today/tomorrow for $175 from TARGET, also either pokemon b/w or b/w 2 as they are both equally priced. Probably B/W 2 being that it is newer. I played nothing but pokemon when I was younger and red/blue came out. I played gold/silver a bit and that is it, not nearly as much as red/blue. I am skipping alot, but sounds liek not much will be missed as they are all independant of eachother.

My main question is, if I wanted to get the girlfriend into it, so we can trade/battle together. When I purchase a single copy for myself, will I be able to create 2 independent save games? or should I buy 2 cartridges so that she can play her own game?

Please forgive my ignorance, I have not touched a handheld since the original gameboy was still around. I am hoping they have evolved just as the larger consoles have.

You can only hold one saved game per cartridge, unfortunately. At least, up to B+W, never played B+W2 but it's been the same forever so I assume it has't changed.

I use to play it when it first came out for the gameboy colour, red, blue, leaf green, yellow, etc. I think I was around 5 or 7 when I started, now I'm 20 tongue.gif Quit years ago though.
