OCZ Pertrol 128GB - SATA II vs III

Thread Starter
Hello Everyone,

I am currently looking for some of this SSD goodness lot's of people now have and have a question..

How much will the OCZ Petrol 128gb bottleneck on my PC? I only have SATA II's on my board and getting a PCI-E Sata III card is not an option as it is currently occupied by my USB 3.0 Card.

The reason for the Petrol is the Price

Many Thanks in advance thumb.gif

Not much.
The biggest advantage from SSDs are its random read/write speeds. Not from the sequential read/write speeds. Think about it, how often are you going to transfer huge gigabytes of files?

aside from benchmarking, I really don't think you'll even notice the difference.

I will have to order one then, just wasn't 100% sure if it would bottleneck or not, thanks for your help:D

Wouldn't this mean SSD's like the vertex 3 can't hit the advertised speeds? I mean in theory..

On an Intel Sata 6gb/s port, the Vertex 3 will hit 550mb/s using the Atto bench test.

On an Intel Sata 6gb/s port, the Vertex 3 will hit 550mb/s using the Atto bench test.

Even on an AMD Sata III port I can hit 504 MB/s with the SSD as a boot drive so I'm sure it could reach a little higher if it was on it's own.

I've seen burst of 540 MB/s when transferring files though.

So with SB710 I should hopefully able to hit around 275MB/s read, with the Petrol.. I guess write (which is 180MB/s on the Petrol) will be as close as it would using a SATA 3 port?
