smoke and my HD 6770.

Hi again! I have an ASUS hd 6770 stock cloaked, never overcloaked anything. So, in all games, in places where's a lot of smoke, for example - skyrim, dragon fight, when it releases his fire breath on me, I lose a half of FPS. I get 60+ all times on high with resolution maxed for 4:3 aspect. When I'm fighting with an ice monster, I get 45 and such jump is really noticeable. Stupid, that when I was playing on my old rig, having 30 FPS was a blast, but why the hell 30 FPS on this video card looks like having 15? Or it's just my imagination and I got used to new frames? But is it ok, that smoke addicts FPS that much? Thanks in advance! Oh yeah, changing settings doesn't affect much.

rendering smoke is VERY intense on GPUs so, no shame on getting a low fps on that, on most cards, yours included.
cloaked? hahah, its clocked wink.gif cloaked means its covered in a cloak (something like a mantle)
the difference between 25 to 30 fps is absolutely huge! you have no idea, but anything higher than 30 in increments of 5 is not very noticeable.
but, the difference between your 30 fps old pc and your new 60 on the new pc is worth considering, your mind got used to the new double frame rate, not that its that different.

You could be experiencing a possible CPU bottleneck. May I ask what CPU you have?

Smoke and other "effects" like that really effect the FPS on my 6770...but I think mine is mostly due to a CPU bottleneck

Dirt2 for example I finally got it running upto 90% GPU load
but when I view outside the car(dirt clouds) I see my FPS drop from 60 to about 45 Same with Water when I'm viewing inside the car.
I also see a 10-15% drop in GPU load

Best way to test this is have something to monitor the CPU & GPU loads and have it either in a OSD or play in a maximized window with the loads displayed in the tastbar thumb.gif

same here. I have 60 in the cabin, outside - 50.
