I actually might start watercooling because of you guys. LOL and I never knew something so complicated is so fun to do.

It is fun. I actually got really excited when I picked up all my parts. As lame as that sounds, it was damn fun.

Noise is the biggest thing. This is something you suffer with GPUs when gaming. HD 6990 was terrible in air. Also Temps are amazing 48C vs 80C. Looks cooler too. Can Overclock more. Only trick part is installation, maintenance, and Cost. To me only Cost is con. Instillation and maintenance is pro.

Agree on everything but the efficiency. I mean, with those very small pump that is integrated in the cpu block, its very efficient for what it is
post #40 of 93
I have what could be called a "watercooling parts test station". What is is is a station where I can easily change out fans and shrouds, radiators, cpu blocks, pumps and loop routing. I am currently running my 17-970 at 4.05GHz (1.3V). The room ambient has been a steady 82F most of the day. The i7-970 was being cooled by a Black Ice Gen II 360 radiator with 38mm fans and shrouds, cpu temp sat at a tolerable 60C.Just for kicks (and as a test) I put a XSCP 480 in the loop also (this is a widely spaced fin radiator designed for quiet, low speed fans, the exact opposite of the Black Ice Gen II 360).Suprisingly I dropped my temps 10C.I sit at 50C in a 82F room running a i7-970 at 100% load (folding).I do not think there is any type of air cooling that can allow this cpu to run full out and overclocked like this at 50C.I think I may have just found a way to keep a rig running longer into our "hot season".I did expect some drop in temps (like 2-4C) but to get a full 10C drop by the addition of a second radiator (only pratcial on a test station) was very suprising.

EDIT: with the cool morning air blowin in my window (it really does cool off in the early morning hours here in the desert) my folding temps drop to 43C. I simply love it when I can hit 43C with an overclocked 17-970 that is at 100% load. This is why I watercool.
