It's an embedded board, originally intended for CarPCs I believe. Because of that the POST is extremely optimized and quick. The funny thing is, it even checks for USB devices in those 1-2 seconds and will boot off of them, so it does most of the same stuff that a more modern board does.

The modern BIOS/UEFI on our high end boards is just as bloated as Windows. tongue.gif

Wouldn't it be better to ignore the time for BIOS POST as it's trivially dependant on your motherboard and not a reflection of your computer's processing power to boot into the OS? I measure the time using a stopwatch from the instant the BIOS screen disappears to the desktop with CPU at 0% usage (what's the point in measured to login screen? You still have more loading to do).

Using the above method this is my time:

Time: 29 seconds
SSD/HDD Model: Western Digital Blue 500GB 7200rpm
Mainboard Model: Asus M2N-MX SE
UEFI or BIOS?: BIOS
CPU: AMD 64x2 4200+
RAM: 2GB
GPU: Asus 6770
OS: Win7 64-bit

Adding BIOS POST to the time = 36 sec

I am running all stock Windows 7 services on startup, and Avast free edition. I think this is pretty damn good for such an old system. The biggest culprit for boot up time was AMD's Catalyst Control Center which adds a whopping 10 seconds to desktop idle. Needless to say I have disabled it. In the previous version of CCC they didn't actually load CCC.exe and MOM.exe on startup but delayed its start to 5 minutes after startup, but then it would run and use CPU for around 10sec and steal focus too. Probably on a more powerful system this would be less of an issue but still...I think I am done with AMD. Next system will be Intel + Nvidia smile.gif

Desktop:

TIME: 17 seconds
SSD/HDD Model: OCZ Agility 3 120GB
Mainboard Model: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX
UEFI or BIOS?: UEFI
CPU Model & GHz: FX-8120 running at 4300MHz
RAM Amount & MHz: 8GB 1333MHz (1T rest is stock forget what they are)
GPU: 2x SLI GTX 260

Laptop: HP dv6-2190us

TIME: 20 seconds
SSD/HDD Model: OCZ Vertex 3 (120GB)
Mainboard Model: (idk this laptop is garbage anyways)
UEFI or BIOS?: BIOS (locked of course)
CPU Model & GHz: i7-720QM
RAM Amount & MHz: 6GB ddr3
GPU: nvidia GT 230M (trash)

SIDE NOTE: the dv6 series as well as the dv7 series have SERIOUS design flaws. internal temps get as high as 98C. that is with it on my stand which allows the vents to acutally take in air. it also has the 12 cell battery which raises the back up about 1.5 inches. Of course it is a first gen i7 in a laptop.

hey there! Your side note caught my attention. I have a DV7 and one day i realized my laptop was burning up and blowing out hot air(barely). The reason for this is because the heat sink grill was filled up with dust. my temperatures came from 70-80 C down to 55C. I have an AMD turion so i thouhgt it was supposed to run a little hot but i was wrong. hope that helps if your laptop isnt new!
