From Linux:

Install os-proper then update grub

From Windows:

Know your boot/root partition and use EasyBCD to add the Linux boot entry to the Windows Loader

One or the other depending on what situation you're in.

THIS. just download a couple of distros, and give each one a few hours (or more) each, then decide which one you like best. Also, Ubuntu has a web based trial you can run from your browser so you don't have to download anything to get a preview. http://www.ubuntu.com/tour/en/ Enjoy.

Newbie here, how do I go about updating the Grub?

That was a quick response, this forum blows me away.

From Mint? should be able to use " sudo update-grub " from the terminal, if that doesn't work then use " sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg " and you should be good to go.

I figured out the real problem... Windows is on a GUID Portion Table. Any way to change that without reinstalling? (I lost my key+disc)

The partition really shouldn't matter. Did you update GRUB? If you cannot get into MINT try using the Live CD, most of them have a boot from hard drive option.

Tried to update GRUB, it said something like "what are you talking about". It wouldn't update. I can get in through the Live CD, what option is this?

A lot of Live CD's have it. I don't know about MINT, though. If MINT doesnt have it download GParted Live. It's a quick download and chances are you'll need it sometime in the future anyway.

sudo update-grub

should have worked though
