There is only so much surface to dissipate a certain amount of heat. Sure you could use a 240, but you'd need 3000+rpm Delta's or Kaze's and probably still wouldn't get a good deltaT. Might as well go with another rad and some slower speed fans.

Though I keep hearing many mixed responses about the amount of radiator required to cool, but i guess its mostly situational..?

It's not situational, it's physics. You can run more blocks than what you have off a 120mm, people have done crazy things like that before. But would you be ok making your ears bleed?? Do you actually want good temps with comfortable noise levels? That is not free, it is going to take some rad space with lowspeed fans to achieve it.

Trust me as an owner of a Phobya Xtreme 400 rad. It could barely keep my CPU and GPU cool. redface.gif
If you want to keep good temps and IF you can fit one a 360mm in P/P would be the best choice. Otherwise a 240mm and a 120 right after it would do.

EDIT: I use Scythe Kaze Slipstreams on mine and I barely notice them.

Okay, I think I understand now...
How much radiator space/type would you say you need in order to keep your ears healthy and happy?

that sounds kind of suprising that a 400 couldnt handle a cpu and a gpu

Most people on here say 120mm for each component or 'core' that you are running. GPU usually is automatically a 240. However I use this rule:

150W / 120mm fan space with medium yate fans to hold a 7dT (uper average for watercooling).

How do you calculate wattage?
Take the TDP of the product and use that.
Total power draw will always be less then the heat output.
So doing the math on power draw will keep you well into the safe point.


Typical Sandy bridge will not load up more then 120-150W of heat overclocked.

A GPU of your class wont do more then 150-200W on a full card block.

Adding the two together = 400W roughly as the most wattage you will need to cool.

doing math a 120x3 = 450W which gives you a 50W excess which means u can turn your fans from medium to low to offset the 50W u got in extra cooling capacity.

Yeah, deltas wouldn't be as good as the could be, but the temps would be just fine.

A single 120.2 radiator with a MCP655-B in push/pull with fans at 7V's with an i5 2500K at 4.9GHz and two overclocked GTX 570's in SLI at 920MHz and a GTX 560 Ti at 990MHz. It can be done, no problem.
