I've heard only good things from the Asrock 990fx board.
If you had to, cut down to 8Gigs of Ram, so you could get the 7950. You'd be hard pressed to use even 8GB
I run 16GB, but only because I ChkDsk customers HDD off my PC (It uses 15.5GB, but it's much faster) otherwise I use, about 4 max

Think I will hold of on the monitor(s) right now until tax refund gets here. Keep everything as is just add the 7950 and complete my rig tongue.gif

thanks for all the suggestions guys!

see ya when my parts get here!

Looks like ill be ordering from new egg since micro center is charging tax out the ass! With new egg and the 30 day trial membership for 2 day shipping I am saving about $50-$100 in taxes alone thumb.gif
The graphics card seems a bit much to me as per the pricing goes so I have added a geforce gtx 570 series and the Asrock 990fx instead. Knocking down about $100-$120 (with MIR) on the graphics card.
Still under a thousand bucks with out case+ monitors. what do you guys think should I pick up the 7950 instead of the gtx, and hold off on a second monitor for now?
revision here:
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=18816532

i would suggest you a 7950 over GTX570 buddy the 79xx overclocks like monsters and gives the best performance and its price and by power consumption too biggrin.gif and there is no need for 16 Gigs of RAM any game hardly uses RAM over 6GB rolleyes.gif and y are you going for Corsair the Samsung ones clock far more better then any RAM in the Market right now redface.gif if its for the looks the i would suggest you G.SKILL Sniper Low Voltage Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 50$ shipped biggrin.gif
lastly Asrock 990FX may be a good performer but not at 130$.thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif y i said that the Asrock 99FX is a 4+1 Phases motherboard and you have to go for a 8+2Phases motherboard you are going to put in a 8 Cored CPU buddy i would suggest you to stay with
GIGABYTE GA-990XA-UD3 130$ or go with GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 143$

Hope that helped thumb.gif

make sure those are the low voltage G.Skill Snipers Series RAM you will have more room for overclocking as the sock voltages are 1.25v lmaosmiley.gif

Found a $50 off coupon for a i7 2600k at m.center. brings it down to $250+tax. | ordering the sniper lv rams 8 gb for now | sapphire 7950 and rest suggested by tarun. But which mobo to get ?

cheapest to the expensive
  1. ASRock P67 PRO3 (B3) 109.98$
  2. ASRock Z68 PRO3 GEN3 104.99$
  3. ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 137.86$
  4. ASRock P67 EXTREME4 GEN3 178.49$
  5. ASUS Maximus IV GENE-Z/GEN3 186$ my all time recommendation
  6. ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 205$
  7. ASRock Z68 PROFESSIONAL GEN3 255$
  8. ASRock Z68 Extreme7 Gen3270$

the only PCIe Gen 2.0 is the P67 Pro (B3) i find it a great overclocker and worth the pay but you have a Z68 Pro Gen3 at the same price you decide which one to go with thumb.gif
Hope that Helped thumb.gif

Which one of these boards would future proof a cross fire x build? (if I were to get a 7970 later when price drops and hook it up with my 7950)

I know some mobos decrease the 16x and makes it 8x? Would that decrease the performance?

it appears the best price thus far is for the pro gen 3. <--- also hows the OC potential on that?

Also I forgot I need a Disk drive rolleyes.gif cheapest one possible just to install O/S and emergency purposes.

if you at having CF/Sli in mund then Extreme 3 Gen 3 is the best for you all the motherboards before that namely the P67 pro and the Z68 pro Gen3 dont support CF/Sli
x16 CF vs x8 is not much of a performance boost but mere 2 to 3%
have a look HERE and HERE
and the cheapest 500GB hdd is for 76$ HERE or OCZ Agility 3 60GB 2.5IN SATA3 75$ after MIR 60$
and if you wnat some thing cheaper then
Western Digital Scorpio Black 160GB 2.5IN 7200RPM 16MB 12MS SATA Notebook Hard Drive $48.21
Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB 2.5IN SATA 7200RPM 16MB 12MS Notebook Hard Drive OEM
66.95$

Hope that helped thumb.gif
