Is my amd build good enough to be a 1080p HTPC?

Thread Starter
In your opinion, was this build good enough for a HTPC? I thought the onboard AMD 4250 could do the job.. I get some lag watching 1080p rips frown.gif I have a GTX 260 laying around i could use, but i'd rather not use it unless im out of options. Note: I just updated the Catalyst driver. Still no better results. Should i consider overclocking?

Video is 2 dimensional, it doesn't take much to play 1080p. In fact, if you already have a TV, it only costs you $25.

o wow, thats impressive lol. yea i thought this build would be fine, i see a lot of ppl with older systems that seem to play 1080p just fine. I used the gameboost function to overclock the gpu to 700mhz.

Should I go Intel next time tongue.gif lol jkjkjkjk

Good to me.  880G plays back 1080p just fine and x2 250 itself will also play 1080p alone.  I hope you didn't seriously purchase the single 4GB DIMM for $36.99 though, you can get 2x4GB of DDR3-1600 for same price redface.gif

I used the HD 4250 on my board when swapping cards, it played 1080p rips fine.. Which codec pack do you use?

My main HTPC setup uses 785G (HD 4200) graphics with an overclock to 750Mhz (so technically it's faster than the HD 4250 since they're the same).  It plays back 1080p videos perfectly AND with room to run shader-based sharpening in Media Player Classic.

I made this pc a long time ago (notice how cheap the HDD was lol), but yea ddr3 is cheap as dirt nowadays. i download VLC media player and used all of its default stuff. I just recently re installed all the drivers again. Plays videos great, just some hiccups every once and awhile. Anybody got any media players they recommend for high-def .mkv, m2ts,mp4, etc?

btw i also use a striker 7.1 sound card

Thanks for the feedback guys!!! great to hear that's its not a hardware issue!

I use normal windows media player, download the k-lite codec pack has software decoding as well as hardware decoding, also has media player classic bundled with it which works well.
