[Various]AMD Radeon 7850 & 7870 reviews - Page 12

The 7870 Looks good.

Nvidia should have the GTX 580 1.5Gb at $400 now! Do not understand why they are still holding this price up!

Some of you guys need to at least Wiki the word "Business". tongue.gif Then maybe you will understand a lil bit.

I understand the sense of needing to make a profit, but the cards ARE priced higher than previous X800 series cards by about 100 bucks each. It is a little pricey, to be honest, but if these things really do stack up and even beat the 79XX cards, even if you have to OC them, it's a no-brainer for the price. So, in the end, do I think they're pricey? Yes? Is it worth it? Absolutely. I'll be grabbing a 7870. My only worry is waterblocks for it.

I wasn't sure about the early refresh for the 79xx serie, but seeing how the 78xx performs compared to the 79xx I can't justify spending the double when I could get 20-30% extra performance.

I am ready to bet the HD8000 will be released this year with kepler high-end. The 78xx is just too close with their big brothers, overclockability of these cards is excellent and it wouldn't be too hard to have them stock 1200MHz.

So yea, I will hold a bit.

Not bad.

It is 80% smaller than the 6970 (389mm^2)...! Imagine the extra performance they could get, just double the transistor count (thus keeping the same die superficies). The 7870 only has 6% more transistor than the 6970...!

Or if they made a 550mm2 GCN die biggrin.gif

Would definitely be epic. I can't wait to see what the 7990 can do.
