maybe this will help some to understand the issue with pricing.

yep. Wonder when we'll see the ceiling...
Is it 700$, 900, or maybe 1000+ ? hmm

I don't think our salaries go up exponentially too tongue.gifmad.gif

What issue with pricing? There is none. They have a card that beats out the 580, so why not price it accordingly?

you dont get it dont you? it's not about filling the sweet spot, its about overall trend with pricing. and i thought that this is fairly simple...
we are being served with midrange card for the price of high end from few moments before... mid range cards prices went up by 3 times (also high end cards are spiking pretty well...). and now if we want to buy a card in 150$ range, we are forced to buy some entry level crap with littile to no performance gain from what it was earlier (5770 and 7770 performance).

yeah it's not like 28nm fab has some problems and there's no R&D or marketing

oh sorry but your sarcasm is invalid... probably you are thinking that god blessed us with 55nm and 40nm manufacturing process straight from the sky right? and little wood elfs did whole marketing with past gens over the night.

remeber AMD is a business so money>what you think it's a fair price

edit: don't forget about pre-5870 high end GPU price, 8800 GTX was price at $600

o rly? and i thought that it is a charity...

all i see is no progress. or very little one. we are getting more performance, but for what? for more money...

i suspect it's because of the 4870 and 5870's ridiculous price/performance; prices are going up to back where they were prior

9800XT @ $500 -> X850XTPE @ $550 -> X1900XTX @ $500 -> HD 2900XT @ $400 (bad performance) -> HD 3870 @ $220 (no performance improvement over 2900XT) -> HD 4870 @ $300 (ZOMG!!!!!1) - > HD 5870 @ $380 (everyone needed new pants when it beat the GTX 295) -> HD 6970 @ $370 (smaller performance increase than expected because TSMC cancelled 32nm) -> HD 7970 @ $550 (AMD realized they can charge this much again)

and nvidia's flagships typically went for ≥$650
