New...kinda.

Thread Starter
I'm Josh, from Buffalo NY area.
Basically I've been viewing these forums for quite some time, just never decided to make an account until recently lol.
Well, I'll start by saying I'm not a gamer, unless you count Halo for the 360. I do record music, edit pictures and sometimes videos on my computer, however I do not do this all the time. By edit pictures, I mean actually edit photography I take of cars lol...just to clarify. I was into web design years ago; wouldn't mind getting back into it as well.

Now, on to why I said that...I have been building a new computer.

BUILD:

Motherboard: Asus Maximus Extreme-Z
CPU: Intel i7 2600k
Case: Antec DF-85 Modified [in process of still]
Cooling: Currently XSPC 360 Rasa Watercooling kit- rebuilding this. Now it's going to be a custom loop. I'll explain more lower.
Video card: Currently [LOL I'm buying a new one soon] Geforce 8600GTS.
RAM: 2/4GB Corsair Vengeance1866mhz [need to change ASAP, these do not work well with this setup.]
PSU: AZZA Titan 850W
DVD: Memorex DVD-RW
Lighting: [Oh, here comes the rice] 2 blue cold cathodes around the outter edges, 3 white spot lights on the bottom, 4 red spotlights to accent the mobo, NZXT Sleeved LED strip [red] to go round the Mobo.
HDD: 1- Windows 200gb, 2- 50gb LFS Gentoo-Sabayon build [ext 2/3[ SATA, 3- 120 gig storage in NTFS.
OS: Windows 7 64bit "Free Edition"; the "free-trial" that never expires and has 100% every feature really needed.
Linux- Gentoo-Sabayon build.

Currently I'm overclocked stable at 5ghz and WAS running at 29c idle and maxed at 67c on Prime95...HOWEVER!!! Something recently happened and I think the pump is not traveling well in this XSPC setup. I'm going to admit that I am new to watercooling, but the idea seems very similar to other things such as automobiles. I have recently thought of re-doing everything I've just recently spent money on and making it better. My new list of products for the liquid cooling are:

Water-block: EK Supreme HF Rev 3 Nickel plated
2nd rad: XSPC RS240 Dual 120mm Low Profile Radiator Rev 2 [yes, I'm going to run 2 rads in this new setup]
Pump: Danger Den DD-CPX Pro 12V 3 Pin Powered Pump.
Res: Alphacool Cape Corp Coolplex Pro 10 LT.
Tubes: Feser Tube Active UV Hose [to replace crap clear tubing that's used in stock XSPC kit]
Ram: I'm still not sure what to get. I am thinking of doing more research..if anyone has suggestions, let me know!
Video Card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 ti.

I'm about to order JUST the liquid cooling stuff tonight and start renovating my previous February project.

Now like I said, I've been modifying my DF-85 case. I opened the front panel up more so you could see inside the case. I honestly hated how you could not see the entire inside through the plexi panel. That part is already done tongue.gif. Next, I'm going to cut open an area where the drive bays are, a 7 inch clearance area RIGHT underneath where the disc drive-bays are. This will leave me enough room for my current drive setups plus one extra drive, and will allow me to put the new reservoir/pump setup right there, I also am going to cut a small hole to the right side of the front panel and fill it with plexi as well so you could see the pump from the outside. I'm going to paint this case too- I'm currently going with a red/blue theme...the blue is to kind of be an ice-look and the red a fire look. I was thinking the outside will be red/black themed to match the fans with the case a bit more. I want to take the honeycomb grills out of the front to make it less weird looking. Probably a bit more lol. I'll post some pictures of my current setup tomorrow when my camera charges. Until then:

Anyone have an idea of good ram to get? I'm looking for 8+ Gigs...I'd rather 16GB to be honest. Something that works great with the Maximus Extreme-Z for a decent cost lol.

Welcome aboard mate thumb.gif

If you want proper responses to your RAM question, I'd start a thread in the appropriate section, you won't get many replies here. But since I'm here I'll advice you that anything with a 1.5v or less operating voltage will do just fine with that rig. It’s just a matter of how much you're willing to spend. However a basic set of 1600MHz or 1866MHz CL7, 8 or 9 will do the job fine. smile.gif

Thanks! And yeah I mostly just wanted to post something else besides my build, maybe start up a discussion lol. I ordered all the parts seen there aside from the Video card and the memory. I need to figure out the best for those lol. I'm going to start modifying the case today and hope it'll turn out alright when I'm done lol.

Pictures soon to come!
