6950 Still worth it?

Thread Starter
I'm looking to pick up a graphics card for my upcoming, and first build sometime within the next month or so (would like to be able to build by the end of the month, but could wait a little while longer). I've been looking into picking up a 2GB 6950 (from another OCN member, used for $218) for this build, but with all the new cards coming out and the market shaking up, I'm not sure what to do. I'd say I have a budget of $250 (less is always better; poor college student) for a new card and was just looking for some insight.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I appreciate any thoughts you can give.

I would say totaly worth it. I've had it setup with 3 monitors for eyefinity and it worked great, better then when I've changed it for a SLi 560ti's.

6950s arent going to run most games well at eyefinity resolution. However, with the 7800 series coming out shortly, I would check to see what those have to offer. It's been awhile since I've followed the 7000 series since I bought my GPUs release day then stopped paying close attention, but I thought I read the 7800 series would be an update to the 6900 series. IIt may be worth waiting for.

From looking at the benchmarks on Anandtech, the 7850 is on par with, or barely edges out the 6950 in the games they tested it with. I'm really not sure which direction to go at this point.

The 7850 will overclock better than the 6950. If it drops @ $250, it is what you should go with.

Right now I have an XFX HD7950 Black Radeon, and it runs beautifully. But I can't say that it is WAAAY better then my older HD6950.
But then again thats just me. smile.gif
