Will I need a Discrete Graphics Card to run Intel® HD Graphics 3000 on this Mobo ?

Hello everyone

Decided to leave a Discrete graphics Card for now [Yep I know i will not be able to play new games (^_^)].

Going for an Intel Core i5 2500K which have IntelĀ® HD Graphics 3000.

##->I have these 2 Motherboards in Mind :-
(1) Biostar TZ68K+ [ http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=556# ]

(2) GIGABYTE GA-Z68P-DS3 [http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3899#ov ]

Will just inserting the processor in its socket and Plugging the Monitor in HDMI port (that these Mobo has) work out (o.O)? ((^_^))

Also, which Motherboard you will prefer (Keeping aside the Point that The Biostar one has Less Usb Ports]?? Just asking a Personal opinion .

Thanks for your time smile.gif

yeah, as long as it's z68 chipset, and has hdmi, dvi, etc output, you can use the integrated graphics.
i would choose the gigabyte one, just because its gigabyte, well thats just me.

I would grab the biostar. It has less markup applied to it, but this board is an underestimated overclocker.

Gigabyte support hasnt been quite what it used to be for me anyways. They are losing out on the reasons why people sway that way.

whats your budget in INR ??? the biostar TZ68K+ is for ~7.5K and is a very good performer at its price mainly because the VRM of the TZ68K+ are Heatsinked so you get better stable and a solid Overclock with it wink.gif its sad that we dont get AsRock motherboards that easily in India or else i would suggest you a AsRock Extreme 3 Gen3 which is for 130$ USD on in INR that comes to Rs.6,538 so except 1k or 1.5k extra in India mad.gif
Hope that helped thumb.gif

Aww come on thats not true
you can still play mainstream games, but games like crysis 2 and so on maybe not.
or setting your graphics for games really high you wont be able to too.

For mainstream games, built-in IntelĀ® HD Graphics delivers discrete 3-D graphics performance without the added cost and power (or shorter battery life) of a discrete graphics add-in card. Intel has compiled a list of popular games that are playable on 2nd Generation IntelĀ® Coreā„¢ Processors with IntelĀ® HD Graphics 3000/2000 and Microsoft Windows 7* 64-bit operating system.

This information is provided solely as a convenience for customers. The list is not intended to be complete or all-inclusive, and is subject to change or revision without notice. If a game does not appear on the compatibility list, it means Intel has not specifically tested the game and is not aware of any issues.

SC2 and Lol can basically be played using a napkin with a GPU drawn on it. (or in my case, HD2000 or whatever's on the g850)

Heck I also managed Empire: Total War on low quality settings, high unit sizes (ugly, but quite playable) and even Skyrim (ok, that was quite bumpy at times, but I beat the main story questline).

So actually LOTS of games are playable on the HD 3000 if you don't mind ****ty texture quality, no shaders, etc.

As long as you have a z68 mobo you will be able to use intel hd 3000. The whole idea of an igpu is to not have to use a discrete gpu.
