Vinyl wrapped GPU shroud/PSU

Well I have been working on a build log for a while and had been trying to figure out a "good" way to change the color of my 580/psu to match my black/white internals A05NB. I decided the best way to avoid voiding the warranty redface.gif on my PSU and GPU would be to simply vinyl wrap them. I went on amazon and ordered some white matte vinyl (as well as some white anti kink coil for dressing up my H80), I decided on a 24" x 36" sheet for about $15 including shipping. You can probably find the same stuff for cheaper in town but hey... oh well.

Although I do not have any pics of the application process as it was kind of a trial by error as I have never worked with vinyl before I do have some tips!

Tools:
Scissors
SHARP AS POSSIBLE knife
cleaning solution, I used compressed air and rubbing alcohol
heat gun, I used my moms old embossing gun
needle (I needed this to clear up bubbles as applying vinyl to an odd shape was more difficult than I had imagined)
Vinyl of the color/type of your choice

I found the best way to apply the vinyl after 3 tries was to start on the opposite side away from the pci 2.0 connection and work towards the motherboard, It will depend on your GPU though. After SLOWLY applying the film as best as possible by hand I had to cut it behind the left fan to take out some wrinkles but it is COMPLETELY unnoticeable. So, on to the grand finale!

I apologize for the off quality of my cell phone, BUT I am VERY pleased with how this turned out biggrin.gif. Feel free to check out my log linked in my sig!

Yes!! This is awesome! I just ordered a powercolor 7870 myst edition and some red carbon fiber vinyl. I have the same idea as you! Wrapping the card and cpu block on my liquid cooler, as well as covering an acrylic sidepanel on the 5.25" drive bays with it. I think there should be a how to and maybe a sticky in the mod section titled something like "vinyl mods".. Lookin good though! <3

Looks great . . . I wish my fans and shroud were pointing upwards vice downwards . . . then I wouldn't be in the position of trying to find a way to hide the PCB.

I really like the black and white theme . . . looks awesome thumb.gif

Cheers

A backplate? biggrin.gif Check watercooling stores like FrozenCPU, there should be one for your card out there.

They're called anti-kink coils, and he's using a random white one. You can sleeve them too.
