The M4A78-E by a long shot.

Logic:
Has a VRM heatsink.
Has a better chipset.
Has a second PCI-e x16 socket. (even if it is x8/x8 when both are used)
Has 8+1 phase.
supports 140w TDP (basically, Phenom II x6 CPUs)
Has a e-SATA port

Thanks for the nice reply, thats kind of you!

I haven't had my Asus M4A78-E mobo for very long, about half a year! I've just bought a DDR3 version of my mobo of ebay for like £25 including postage!! Here is the DDR3 version - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3/M4A78TE/#specifications

I want to ask you a question or anyone who is looking at this thread.

Do you think I should upgrade my motherboard to this mobo: GA-890GPA-UD3H - http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3785#ov

Or don't you think theres much difference or point?

Does the GA-890GPA-UD3H KILL my M4A78T-E mobo?? Apart from the onboard graphics of course...

the 890GPA-UD3H has:

Newer chipset (890G vs 790GX)
More SATA ports (3)
Another PCI-e x1 socket
Dual Bios (in case one fries)
2 USB 3.0 ports

the M4A78T-E has:

An e-SATA port
8+1 phase

Honestly, if you have the M4A78T-E already, its not worth it. It will be more of a side-step then an upgrade. If it isn't too late to cancel, and you can find one for close to the same price, the 890GPA-UD3H may be a better choice.

That being said, I don't think the AMD X2 6000+ has a DDR3 memory controler, nor do either of those boards have DDR2 support, so I hope you're planning on a CPU upgrade with this.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think it matters about onboard chipset because I have an XFX 6870 black edition. I should really update my PC specs on my profile! Because I now have the black edition 1090T 6 cores smile.gif

I also have a U3S6 PCIe card with sata and usb 3.0 connections on it - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Accessories/U3S6/

I really could do with an extra PCI-e socket but I guess your right, its not worth the upgrade. I can just use the money and buy a Blu-ray writer smile.gif

You got a nice black mobo!!

So I guess my mobo is good then?? I heard it overclocks really well!!

I've aimed to make my computer a htpc computer

Ah, with a 1090T and 6870 that board should do just fine, and its 8+1 phase and VRM heatsink mean it should OC well enough thumb.gif

And ya, Gigabyte finally came up with a good color scheme, just in time for the 900-series smile.gif
