I like the Lightning coolers, which is why I go with these cards. Aesthetics is very high on my priority list.

Cannot wait to get my hands on this card. I recently had to send back my DCUII 7970 which was tragic so hopefully this will be the answer to what I want. Why don't other card makers have 3 of the same type of output on their cards? I've only seen it exclusive to the DCUII and the MSI Lightning thus far and it's limited to the 7970 series.

Why was yours sent back? I had very high VRM temps on mine and then the whole rig stopped working, so I sent the GPU back and they reckon they've tested it and had no issues at all.

Installed the card with CCC 12.2 directly from the ASUS website. Installed ASUS GPU Tweak, but didn't mess with anything just yet. I started up Skyrim and about 7 min later, I got black-screened. Force shutdown and it the card wouldn't even spin up. I tried clearing the CMOS at the discretion of ASUS tech support and still nothing. Tested my system with someone else's 6950 on all of slots and no issues so it was definitely the card or the drivers (which I uninstalled and reinstalled again to check). No luck. Sent back for a replacement to the egg, but it wasn't in stock so they just gave me a refund.

Btw, Newegg still has about 6 of the DCUII left:

I ordered another one, but if the Lightning comes out on Friday, I will definitely be refusing shipment and ordering that instead.

Anyone else notice the slight price drops on the 7970 line on NewEgg. Some cards dropped as much as $20 while most dropped $5-$10. Odd mark-down. Best guess for the 7970 Lightning if it is Friday is probably in the range of $600-$650 on Newegg since it will have to be more than MSI's OC version. Hopefully, more towards the low end though. It will more interesting to see how pricing pans out when Nvidia finally decides to release their cards to market. Hopefully we see some price drops, but it's looking more and more like the consumers are getting the short end of the stick this cycle with the huge increases in prices.

OOS now. It's really amazing to me how many people (myself included) are apparently unaffected by the poor economic times we live in. All of these expensive and frivolous computer items just fly off the shelves.
