Alternative to Pandora One and why?

Thread Starter
Hello,
I just picked up a 2.1 speaker setup from Corsair and my Pandora One is about to autorenew. I'm wondering if there is anything out there on the WWW that might better fit my fancy. With Pandora I wished I had more control over what I listended to from being a paying member. I don't have any real complaints with the service though.
Any thoughts or alternatives out there ?

Jango.com it's better in my opinion. unlimited skips. Commercials are there but minimal.

Also you can add a better variety to your playlist.

The website looks good and the music sounds great. I really like that some songs show the lyrics. (that's always great for me) I'm on jango now and attempting to install the desktop application. The application is having some issues installing. I'm sure I'll get ontop of it though soon.
Thanks very much for this information and site.
Btw, ty for being clear cut and not absurdly persuasive.

You could give Spotify a shot.
It's supposed to be the biggest competition for Pandora, and is supposed to be the most popular equivalent in EU already.

I just renewed my Pandora subscription so I'm locked in till next Jan again lol.
Let us know which you go with, what you like / don't smile.gif

I installed Spotify and decided to go premium membership off the start. That means I had to spend $9.99 for this month for all the services. They do offer other plans; even a total price for an entire year.
It installed easily with no real bloatware. Immediately it asks to connect to my Facebook account. (sigh) I ultimately gave in and decided to go premium. However, once inside the Spotify program it allowed me to disable itself from posting on my Facebook account. (That remains to be seen) It also immediately searches my pc and all devices for music and adds it to itself. (I hate that)
Now I start to get ready for what I expect. Music. I'm absolutely amazed by whats available at a click away. The UI is fairly easy to manage. The searches are widespread; connecting us with exact and specific info. about the artists and genre; related artists etc. There is even a Biography button. The sound quality is superb to me. Premium memberships do come with 'enhanced song quality' apparently higher bitrates. I'm incapable of really telling if this is true or not. I'm currently listening to Eric Claptons Layla and it sounds magnificent. I'm using Corsair sp2500 w/ Sonar XD soundcard.
This is obviously a first glance look and by no means anything official. Just my thoughts and initial experiences. It does seem that Spotify connects us with eachother too, through playlists. I guess by creating playlists that we can then post for all other members. As for the specifics I do not know now and frankly don't give a hoot. The reason I was debating leaving Pandora One is from not having complete control over what I wanted to listen to. So far this really seems to be a fix for that. The only HUGE con that I may not overlook ultimately is the monthly price. I'll continue to enjoy it for at least this month. I do suspect that if it continues to really pour out what I love this easily I might end up staying. Again, I'm still exploring and realize I only understand the basics.
