But in the forties we didn't have the electronics we have in space, We do today.

Although designed and protected as much as were able, Could still do considerable damage, If it was large enough.

Few TV channels were blacked out for about 3-4 hours due to this solar storm . All those channels were showing tickers with the reason for the outage being "sun outrage"
