Thats the issue right there most likely. You should be running the CPU client at -smp 5 to give the GPU one core to work with. AMD GPUs tend to eat up a lot of core cycles. So if you give them a dedicated core the CPU and GPU tend to stop fighting for the cycles and work better together. What is the cpu usage of the a3core compared to the a15core (might be a different name for the GPU core. a15 is the nvidia one)

i think its a16 for the AMD GPUs. with just the GPU running i dont see much over 15% usage except for the occasional spike. it doesnt seem like its fighting too bad. what really gets me is it just all of a sudden changed to going slow like this, it had no issues before. like i said, it went a few months, on and off and already folded over 100 WUs

15% is way high. my 460 (although folding is more optimized for nvidia) never averages more than 1%. I notice that even when my cpu is at 95 usage for folding i see a drop in points of about 30-50%. You are going to want to limit the folding to x-1(x being the number of cpu cores). It may not seem like they are fighting but folding is meant to run in the background so you dont notice a performance drop.

that may have done it. im not sure why it didnt matter before, but it seems to be working back at normal speed. the 3.7 day project has been returned to just over 2 hours and the video card is still moving along well. thanks so much for the help, i would hate to have something so stupid limit my folding efforts.

Who knows why that problem is happening now and not before. A new driver install, new work units being released, background programs, the list goes on.

Glad to help sort this out for you.

Have you tried doing a reinstall of windows that usually fixes things. smile.gif
