PMW fan control through software not working

Thread Starter
I have 12 fans, when I do have them powered, upon turn-on, they nearly go full duty, and never rev down despite software settings.
All are controllable via PMW and connected through the motherboard, yet, when I used the motherboard software (Asus Xfan), it does nothing to control these fans; and I've used Speedfan, which too, does nothing. They are all connected via 5 way PMW splitters.

The fans are Gentle Typhoon AP-30s (which have been modified to just have a single 3 pin connector) and the motherboard is a Asus Rampage 3 Formula

One set is connected to the OPT 1, the other two to CHA 1 and CHA 2 respectfully.

Anyone have a clue as to what may be happening and what I'd need to do?

If they are 3 pins fans, how are you able to use PWM? Have you tried just one fan to see if it works? I'm surprised that one mobo header can handle 5 fans.

Look at my sig, item 9. You need a 4-pin plug. The PWM controller is the 4th pin.

yea, you need some sort of PWM based fan controller like the Rheosmart (there are many others too) OR you have to mod the fans. Using the rheosmart would be so much better, also you should be carful with those high power fans on mobo headers. Don't want to blow them out.

The splitters provide power from the PSU directly, thankfuly. XD

But figures, I misunderstood the store description. In which case, who would be willing to do the PWM conversion and resleaving (for money of course)?

If you already have your wires stuck in 3-wire plugs, just release the pins with a mini screwdriver and put them into 4-wire plugs. No need even to disturb the sleeving.

You would have to mod those. I bought them. Note the ridges are on both walls of the plug. You need this:

PWM plug

or this,

or this.

PWM plug - 3

Pick your price.

why not just get a front bay fan controller, or maybe some sort of auto controller?
Thread Starter
I want to avoid using a physical fan controller at all costs and I'm limited on front bay slots to begin with.

So according to your tutorial of sorts, ehume, I'd have to add an additional wire, right?
