overclocked mine to 1030/1030

entire CPU usage is around 75%

the cores are around
90 80 65 65

if the first core is choked and the software isn't smart enough to move onto other cores then I'm screwed frown.gif

I went from a Phenom II x4 B55 @ 4Ghz and my 7950 was fine with it. Some minor bottlenecking, but it got worse when I OC'ed the 7950. I'd recommend a jump to an i5 Sandybridge, even if you just get a cheap motherboard to begin with that won't support overclocking. As you will still notice a drastic increase in performance with any of the i5 processors, generally because of the more efficient architecture.

It depends upon the resolution you are playing on. The lower the resolution the more the CPU will bottleneck.

on 1080p maybe 480GTX/7950/570 GTX/560 GTX TI 448/HD 6970 as maximum

I have a Q9550 @ 3.825, and my 5850 @ 850/1200 is always the bottleneck. I would think you were safe between 6950/560ti and 7870/580. Anything more powerful would not be a terrible thing if you plan to upgrade your platform any time soon.

My 2nd sig rig, uses an Q9450 with a 6970 gpu, and if i overclock it doesnt bottleneck much at 2.66Ghz, but if i clock my cpu to 3.5 the core usage is about 80~90% and gpu usage is a steady 99% so it probably wont bottleneck on a 3.3Ghz with a 6970 / 580 or lower end cards. the 7950/7970 will probably more likely cause a bottleneck, but i have no expierence with these new cards.

Thread Starter
Well I went ahead of bought a GTX 480. I'd say it was a huge improvement over my oc'd GTX 275 even with the Q6600 3.3ghz cpu. I can now play BF3 with a ton of settings I couldn't before with even higher frame rates then before too. I'm gonna wait to go sandy bridge
