If your going with an i3 and using the onboard graphics I'd get one with the better HD3000 IGP (The models with 5 at the end have it such as the i3 2105 and i3 2125). Really an i3 is probably overkill, a Celeron G530 or Pentium G620 would do just fine for a build like that. Do you have a Micro Center close because that i3 2100 for $99.99 makes me think you might? For a case my favorite budget cases are the NZXT Source 210 Elite (in Black or White) and Antec Series One. I agree with the others, you can get a better motherboard, especially for the price.

I like MSI, some people may say what they want but MSI makes good boards, seriously...

I've had quite a few MSI budget boards, never had one die on me yet. biggrin.gif

Anyway the i3-2100 is a great CPU, this computer will serve them very well for many years to come, seriously.

Though the above poster is correct, for what you listed the i3 would probably be overkill.

Great Build BTW. biggrin.gif

You will be blown away:

(If you don't like open box get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157233 $79.99 but MORE expensive $74.99)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130598R $64.99 Open box but Quality motherboard.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226249 $36.99 8gb of Mushkin ram, they're a good company and this ram is similar to other generic ram, but being Mushkin they will support their product.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106289&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-CD/DVD%20Burners%20(RW%20Drives)-_-Lite-On-_-27106289&AID=10440897&PID=3938566&SID= $17.99 24x dvd burner

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115078 $124.99 Getting the "higher end" i3's won't make a difference

NOW:devil.gif http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B006I2H0YS/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new $73.99 SERIOUSLY. GET THIS. It will last you forever and it's THE BEST case for the price. It's quality and it's tough. You'll be fine doing rigs in that for years to come.

No shipping charges.
Total = $318.95
If you chose the asrock = 333.95
Oh also, the motherboards chosen are good, and in a few years if the i3 isn't cutting it/starts to die (3-5 years), you can pick up a quad core for cheap, a gpu for cheap, and even a TINY SSD for the OS. Make sure that you set the default save location to the D drive, your 500gb hdd, so it does it for them automatically though.

They'll be able to handle an extra 18.95 I'm sure. Any time they have a bit of free cash (60-100 I know it's a lot but still) recommend they pick up a 30gb nova or 32gb agility 2 ssd. Put the OS there and use the HDD as a (DEFAULT) storage/normal drive.

Have fun!!!thumb.gif

Also if they'd like to minimize costs/keep it as cheap as possible, go for a logisys case...rolleyessmileyanim.gif
