Serial pumps

I want to run 2 pumps in series a Laing DDC-1t and a Laing D5.
The purpose of this is 2 reasons:

1: Redundancy so that incase one pump dies the components won't fry.
2: Having 2-3rads and 4 blocks might need more than a D5 at low level.

Now I have read the Martins liquidlab article on running 2 pumps in series, english is not my first language so couple of questions:
My understanding is I can run the pumps at different speed aslong as I don't exceed the limitations of the pumps no harm is done.

Basicaly I can safely run the Laing D5 at lowest speed which is Level 1, considering the Laing D5 is stronger then DDC-1t this means that the Laing DDC-1t even as it will be running harder then D5 because the D5 limit is not exceeded it won't take damage from the DDC1-t correct?

Because of the design of the DDC-series pumps, I believe they're not actually damaged when flow exceeds their normal rate... Either way, yes, a D5 on the lowest setting would be 100% ok to run with the DDC.

A follow up question, If I decided to just run one pump a D5, incase of pump failure is it possible to put in a immediate automatic hardwareshutdown in Bios or a windows 7 application?

So If I know my GPU's never reach 70c in Furmark then in the app I put that if the GPU's ever reach 70c the PSU immediately shuts off?

Most motherboards have an option to immediately shut down if whatever is hooked to the CPU fan header hits 0 RPM, and the DDC should have an RPM monitoring line, so simply enabling that option would shut the computer down should the pump ever stop spinning. Another useful setting is the thermal shutdown option in bios, which isn't uncommon either. Once you stress test with your new loop and and get an idea of what your CPU temps look like, set the bios to shut down if the CPU hits ~10C more than that (or 15C if you have large ambient swings and REALLY want to be sure it doesn't shut down when you're just pushing it hard). This option also covers a failure that doesn't stop the pump from rotating, like a clog in a block, or a leak that happens to not spill on anything important.

If your flow stops, a cpu even at idle will heat up nearly instantly, and I'd trust cpu monitoring through the bios much more than I would trust something in windows monitoring the gpu. They're all in the same loop, CPU temp should be just as good of an indicator of failure.
