Is it a reference card or not???

Hey guys, I have a reference 6870 sold by xfx. I want to crossfire my 6870, but want another reference card to do water cooling later on. Newegg has an abundance of different cards with modified coolers. Which cards are still reference or are they all non-reference by now?

I don't see any reference models on Newegg. I know Diamond had one on Newegg a couple months ago that was reference. You can try ebay or something. I have a reference Sapphire I could possibly sell you.

Wait so for watercooling, are you able to use non reference cards or these companies basically screw you if you didnt already buy the card when it was really expensive?

It all depends upon the individual card, and the Water Block ...

Reference cards TEND to be easier for the WaterCooling companies to just make ONE BLOCK that they KNOW fits every card from every Video Card manufacturer since ALL Reference Cards are basically the same.

However, some cards are built on second revision reference PCB boards and most WC companies make Water Blocks for those also, and many Video card manufacturers release their higher end Non-Ref designed cards on these style PCB boards ... you really need to RESEARCH your particular Video Card you're interested in, and then see what manufacturers make a Water Block for it, IF they even do.

Easiest place to start - http://www.coolingconfigurator.com/ ... just enter in your Card info, and see what they offer.
