Max safe temperature for E6600?

Thread Starter
What is the maximum safe temp for an E6600? I just got one with the Asus P5W DH Deluxe board. If it makes a difference, I have 2GB Corsair XMS at 4-4-4-12. I'm using the stock HSF and it seems to do very well. Here's what I've noticed so far (all temps in F):

No OC (2.4Ghz): Idle in the lower 70s, in the mid to high 80s under load.
10% OC (2.63Ghz): Idle mid to high 80s, upper 90s under load.
15% OC (2.75Ghz): Idle upper 90s, between 110 and 115 under load.

I haven't had any lockups, reboots, or anything strange yet. How much further am I likely to get without problems? This CPU seems to OC quite easily...

As long as the CPU is under 55C it should be fine. The E6600 can get up to 3.2 on air very easily. You can go up to 3.6 or higher with high quality air/water or phase.

Uh, 55C is more than fine for a C2D.

Under 85C using TAT. It measures temps differently than other programs, is the only one ATM that shows the right temp. The temp sensor is in a different place, closer to the die.

Ohh yeah lol for the C2D the TAT is fine if its around 85C because its the temp of the actual core, not the sensor next to it

Ok maybe this is a retarded question but are you sure 85C is safe? That seems terribly hot. I'm shocked that they release this at the lower speeds if they could have pushed them much harder. I could probably go over by 1G before getting that hot.

yep the smaller the die is the more heat they can take i belive but mine runs at load 74c and nothign bad i think 85 is the max

What motherboard and video card you have? Is the case a mid-tower?

Also, if possible, see if you can buy a Thermaltake Big Typhoon and some Artic Silver 5 paste, that is the best way to go with an E6600, stock HSFs are horrible.
