AMD FX-4100 overclocking

Thread Starter
can anyone who has an amd fx-4100 tell me there findings when overclocking so i can get a good idea of everything to do with how well they overclock what the good and bad temps are and what the sweet spot is for its frequency and NB frequency and things like that

also to save time i know people dont like the 4100 and there is better cpu's out there but im just happy to be getting something better than a core 2 duo tongue.gif

thank you to anyone who takes the time to help

Oh nooosssss..Link is on other comp frown.gif

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-5OTdwMbX4 I have this one for now...
Here it is
http://www.overclock.net/t/1214380/amd-fx-stable-voltages-frequencies-thread

You could beat it with a $124 960T Zosma..just sayin
IME..fx doesn't like the higher cpu/nb clocks..and likes higher ht link (as opposed to regular AMD)
getting the RAM right was a chore..I think you have to raise trfc

I just got that CPU, too from MC. Can't really beat $110 for cpu/mobo if you can buy it from MC. Also even if you can't It should be a fun toy to play with. I think I would benefit from your thread, too as I haven't OC'd anything from AMD in quite a while.

As far as overclocking these FX chips, really the sky is the limit.

Keeping them cooled is another story. A good air cooler will get you 4.5-5.0GHZ though for the FX-4100. A 5GHZ FX-4100 with its skinny cores will be about on par with a 4GHZ Phenom IIx4 with its fatty cores.

My 24/7 OC:

CPU: 4.5GHZ
CPU-NB: 3.0GHZ
HT Link: 2.5GHZ
RAM: 2GHZ CL8 1T

My chip stays cool like this, nothing above ~40'C even under heavy stress test. If I juice it to 5GHZ then I start seeing 65'C under stress, which still isn't bad for air cooling.

Are you sure you don't have the CPU-NB and HT Link speeds mixed up.
Havn't seen anyone with a 3Ghz NB speed.

OP: what MB are you using?

They just aren't trying hard enough, or maybe it is my awesome MSI 890FX board rolleyes.gif

At the OP what board are you gonna be running it with, if it is gonna be a gigabyte board make sure to get the bios that has the APM option so that you can disable it (this is usually the newest or beta bios which fixes the throttling issue)

Now here are the settings I use,

CPU multi- 23x200 = 4600mhz

CPU voltage - 1.33v

CPU-NB - stock (any increase gets my chip very unstable)

Make sure you get at least a hyper212+ cooler or something equivalent so that you can indeed OC the chip properly. I'm sure all of the 4100 owners will tell you that after a certain voltage, this chip pumps out heat like you would not imagine.

With that board and cooler combo you should be good to go, go for a max OC on stock volts and if that is good enough for you then stick with it, otherwise increase the voltage by .05v until you get to a speed you are happy with, just keep in mind that most people don't recommend going over 60c or 1.45v (whichever comes first) for 24/7 use
