if you want pure power which you will never get with a overclocked X6 or A8 then

CPU
Intel Core i5-2300 2.8GHz Quad-Core Processor $179.98 @ NCIX US

Motherboard
Biostar H61MGC Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard $49.99 -$10.00 MIR $39.99 @ Newegg

Memory
Kingston HyperX 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3-1600 Memory $20.99 @ NCIX US

Hard Drive
Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB 2.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $66.95 @ NCIX

Video Card
ASUS Radeon HD 6770 1GB 107.99 -$20.00 MIR $87.99 @ NCIX US

Case
Cooler Master Elite 370 ATX Mid Tower Case $33.11 @ NCIX US

Power Supply
Corsair 430W ATX12V Power Supply $44.99 -$10.00 $1.99 $36.98 @ Newegg

Total (before MIR) $505.99 After Rebate $477.99

Cheaper CD Drive
Haf 912 free shipping on Amazon
500GB HDD w/ Free Shipping on Amazon

You really should go with an i3 system over an athlon x4
$113 i3 2120 newegg sale! biggrin.gif
$50 H61 Mobo
$20-$35 4GB or 8GB of 1333MHz RAM (H61 chipset only supports up to 1333Mhz)

imo you don't need fancy heatsinks unless you plan on overclocking heavily. with an i3, it is very limited overclocking possibilities... This will be a much better processor than the AthlonX4

This should make everything cheaper than what you had in your most recent build, so you should be able to keep the 6850, and you should keep your 6850 thumb.gif

nope, that i5 Sandy Bridge performs better than an normal OC'd Turbans or Denebs.

an i3-2120 will perform about the same as an normal OC'd Denebs and Turbans will trade blows.

Tarun is right about the i5-2300 performing better.

The HDD is on backorder wink.gif
but that Haf 912 is a good find

Personally I would go with an i3 system due to the tight budget. He will get more out of spending the exta $60 torwards a GPU. a 6850 is a BIG step up from a 6770.

IMO opinion, the most expensive part of a pure gaming computer, should be the GPU thumb.gif

In my newegg cart its $496 total, $513 with shipping. If your hard capped on $500, switch to a crappy cheap cast to save the extra money but I find this case very very nice.

I can personnaly vouch for that cpu. Great bang for buck. However, whats the os? Unless its linux/bsd your going to need to pay for windows. An apu is good for a $400 budget (os not included) but for $500 a build with an athlon ii x3 (or x4) and 6850 Take my vote.

And if you game the gpu gets the most. Dont cut it to cram an i5 in there. In gaming, gpu troups cpu. Most other things its the other way around, but not gaming. When puting together budget builds for customers i take the least I can on other things (a normal build might have an x3 a $50 mobo and a $20 case) then pack the biggest gpu I can in, up to 6870, at witch point i would say its worth it to spend elsewhere.

amd you have a point for a gaming cpu the GPU is most of it which matters

that's where i think differently giving a cheaper cpu in a gaming rig is fine as far as it does not bottleneck it and fit in a suitable motherboard which can OVERCLOCK reasonably in the budget and the OP can have fun + free performance tongue.gif
hope that helped thumb.gif
