I would, old AMD rig used to be CFX 6970 but I'm on single gpu now that can barely run smoothly on 1440p BF3... yeah I like Ultra setting... and for having a X79 system with a weak card to run 1440p is just not right to me.

HD6970 is a weak card and it is slower than it's previous gen HD5000.

I would, simply because more power means higher AA levels and a more steady framerate. Even if I get dips of 40FPS on the 580, i'd get a solid 60 on the 680. There is always something you can do to push better visuals.

I'll be upgrading even if it is only 10% better. I look at buying hardware and using it as a hobby. I enjoy buying it, testing it, overclocking it, etc.. and after reselling the old hardware the price really isn't that bad.

I will upgrade to two of these most likely. I have had two 570's and they are not enough to run my 2560x1600 resolution properly. At 1080p two 570's destroy every game out there, but at my resolution I can barely run low at BF3 with one 570.

By the end of March I'll likely pick up a HD7870, HD7950, HD7970, or GTX680. A review will follow wink.gif This GTX560 Ti is still a little beast, though.

I dropped 2560x1600 after about 1 1/2 years and went back to 1080p. I couldn't justify the $2500 or so I spent on GPUs to keep playing games on max. 1080p, while looks worse, has been much less of a headache. I only upgrade my single GPU every year and I don't even need too.

Looks like 2x GTX 680 will cost about the same price as a single GTX 580 did at launch. I'm betting stores sell out fast, and put their prices well above MSRP though. frown.gif

If this card is faster than a gtx 580, by at least 5-10%, I just might have to get it. Hopefully a DCUII or TFIII design will available by summer.

Instense gun battles, in BF3, I see my frames drop to the low 30s. Usually outside in the city on Operation Metro, where all that debri is floating around and junk. 570 just isn't cutting it...Especially with Back to Karkand

Sent from my SAMSUNG Galaxy S.

We also have to remember that your average 'noob' is going to look at the 7970 and get it because it has more VRAM. Many people still think "VRAM = Max Performance".
As you said, I feel the only thing that could cripple this card is the 2GB VRAM limit.. but I don't know of a game that uses over 2GB of VRAM even at 2560x1600. BF3, possibly?
This and the i7 3770k is going to be my Guild Wars 2 build. thumb.gif

Maxing out to you must be 30-40fps because at 2560x1600 a single 580 gets eaten alive in BF3. http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/XFX-Radeon-HD-7970-3GB-Black-Edition-and-CrossFire-Results/Battlefield-3
brb running the same fps as a xbox. I'll pass.

Looks like 2x GTX 680 will cost about the same price as a single GTX 580 did at launch. I'm betting stores sell out fast, and put their prices well above MSRP though. frown.gif

1080p 120hz is where its at. But again you need tons of gpu power to keep fps over 100fps to take full advantage of 120hz gaming. What I don't get is why they are calling this the 680 when it replaces the 560? What is the 580's replacement being called?

I don't think it's safe to assume that pricing at all.
