Yes I do realize that 120hz monitors are mostly for gaming but still, you don't game 24/7 and when you want to see a movie or a picture a friend send you, it's nice to have a little more image quality many of the 120hz monitors offer.
The day when we have 120hz 2560x1600 or better with nice image quality like IPS but with the speed of TN, I will be a happy man smile.gif

I have a separate computer for browsing/internet etc. My 120hz is for my gaming rig only. I'm not sure they can pull off the 2560 120hz but if they do it will have a hefty price tag. At least 2k for a 30"

I went through the process of designing an ASIC personally (a small one on an old 1.6µm process though) so I know what it means to work with a transistor budget or i.a.w. keeping the IC within certain bounds (die size). What I'm trying to tell you all this time is that you interpret "performance/mm²" incorrectly. Let me formulate the question at hand more explicitly. What performance are we talking about? Where does the ASIC need to excel? Based on these questions you optimize the architecture and therefore the pipelines in a certain way -- which logic units, in which order and in what quantity.
An architecture is only superior in certain aspects depending on the purpose it was designed for. Depending on what nVidia tried to accomplish with Kepler you get more "performance/mm²" in one application but less in another -- more TMUs (pixels/clock) and less ROPs (triangles/clock) vs. Fermi. The difference again depends on the application.
Of course there's also the fact that there can be implementation errors so that the ASIC does not perform as it was designed to. Such as the broken memory controller in GF100/110 or having troubles with wiring which causes extensive clock skew and worse physics.
I believe we had this discussion before where I pointed out the same thing though.

Why is it so difficult for you to interpret what I mean? I'm talking general gaming performance. Nvidia's not going to make an extremely focused architecture... everything is becoming more and more general purpose. This isn't about performance/mm² in a single application... it's the big (gaming) picture that I'm talking about. Across most games, which will be faster? That thing that people actually care about when they read GPU reviews.

That's what I'm getting at... I don't see why you have this need to narrow it down to niche scenarios.

If this card is 15-20% faster then the GTX 580, it is going to sell for $550+ (Nvidia has not even lowered the price of the GTX 580 which should be worth $400 considering the competition)!

So from what I understand on this rumor article this is a 256 bit mid level card which is a tad better than a 7970 and it's being called a 680?

That would leave two more GPUs at 320 bit and 384 bit with even more performance?

Seems strange and confusing with the naming scheme this to be true.

If it was are we looking at a 685 and 690 next level names maybe? What about the dual GPU? 690x2 perhaps? Hmmmm any one else find this strange?

I agree! I do not see Nvidia having the ability to keep such cards cool! As well as the price tag that would be asked!

$550+ GTX 680
$800+ GTX 690

Everyone would just go crossfire or SLI!

Of Course, if these rumors (A big If) are true!

dunno if nvidia surround supports 6 screens like eyefinity from amd. also i would recommend you to go with odd number of screens, you dont want to have a bazel at the center of your setup ;p
