CPU
AMD Phenom II X4 960T Black 3.0GHz Quad-Core Processor $114.99 @ NCIX US

Motherboard
Asus M5A78L-M LX PLUS Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard $59.99 @ Amazon

Kingston HyperX 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3-1600 Memory $20.99 @ NCIX US

Hard Drive
Samsung Spinpoint F1 DT 250GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $51.78 @ Compuvest

SSD
OCZ Agility 3 60GB 2.5" Solid State Disk $74.99 -$15.00 MIR $59.99 @ Microcenter

Video Card
MSI GeForce GTS 450 1GB Video Card $104.99 -$20.00 MIR $84.99 @ Newegg

Case
Cooler Master Elite 370 ATX Mid Tower Case $33.11 $33.11 @ NCIX US

Power Supply
Corsair 430W ATX12V Power Supply $44.99 -$20.00 FREE $24.99 @ Newegg

Total (before MIR) $528.39 After 55$ MIR $473.39
if you dont mind going with a better refurnished AM3 motherboard then you can do for ASUS M4A88T-V EVO/USB3 64$
the reason i when we AMD is a true Quad core i known the fact i3 2100 as 4 threads and with the help on HT lin its performs as a quad
but a true quad will help you better overall if rendering is the main purpose redface.gif here have a look HERE and if you still feel that i3 2100 would be a better option than go for a i3 2100+Foxconn H61MXV 169$
secondly i when with a 250GB HDD bcoz i wanted to fit in a SSD so the OCZ 60GB SSD with help you in speeding up the things in rendering
lastly the Graphic card i went with nvidia because i guess all major the Rendering softwares can make use of Physx thumb.gif
Hope that helped thumb.gif

For the lower price and better VRM setup I recommend taking a GA-78LMT-S2P (ask for a rev 3.1 NOT a 4.0 or 5.0) over that setup.  This will even accomodate an unlock to 6 cores safely so long as the VRMs are properly cooled - or you can buy a 6-core such as the 1045T right away.

What sort of overclocks can be achieved on these VRMs? Mild overclocks I'm assuming.

with good airflow i would expect atleast a mild overclock. im unsure how it will handle heavy OCing without properly cool VRMs as xd_1771 mentioned but i have faith in him that it will be ok smile.gif

what to use to cool th VRMs im not sure for this board thinking.gif someone will know

This is looking to be an extremely viable solution.

For $20 more I could get the 1045T as mentioned which would definitely help with rendering.

Looks like I can come in under budget with this system and still have it perform well.

If its just for the ease of smooth viewing, wouldn't a card like this be more suited. It should cover the gpu processing power needed and has 2 gig's of VRAM.

Or what about looking for a second hand Nvidia Quadro card? I hear those help a lot, since they are especially designed for it. And perhaps the cuda core could also be of some assistance. But even though I suggest this, I don't know what those cards cost now a days or in second hand.

STAY AWAY FROM THAT GTS 450! It uses slower DDR3 RAM as opposed to the leap and bounds faster GDDR5!!!
