[Kitguru] AMD HD7870 and HD7850 Graphics Card Review

Quote:
AMD have thrown the discrete graphics market into turmoil this year with so many models available that the consumer has been left scratching his or her head in confusion. Which card to get if you want to play demanding games on an affordable 24 inch screen? Do you really need to cause serious injury to your credit card by picking up a HD7950? Is it really wise to spend your money on a last generation card such as the HD6950?

Personally, I had found this very enjoyable to see applaud.gif Would of been real nice to be able to Tri-Crossfire the 7800 series thinking.gif

Wow...7850 crossfire is just a hair behind 580 sli.

You know Nvidia's trying to push Kepler out the door as fast as they can.

And then you realize that the cfx setup is just as expensive as a 6990 or a 590....

its giving a nice performance. now judging from price if I'm not wrong 7870 are pricing at 300-350 and 7850 at 250-300. if the price are at their max price which is 350 and 300 the performance to price value will decrease a lot and not worth much to buy but if the price are at their lowest price then it will be a giant killer. well this is my opinion. and now I'm waiting for Nvidia with their new card so I can decide which one I'll buy.

If it behaves like 68xx, then it's essentially 7850 crossfire.

It sounds a lot better than it really is imo - a single 7970/7950 with a good overclock can beat the 6990 and 590 in 3DMark as well.

EDIT: Not taking anything away from it though, that's still impressive crossfire performance. It closes in on SLI 580's at a cheaper price and with more VRAM.

It's about equal to my GTX 470s in SLI @ 800MHz. Impressive at stock clocks, in the current lineup these cards are certainly at the sweet spot. Although it's not that much better than 6950 CF while priced considerably higher.
